seller wont accept paypal

I have won an item thats collection only, i need to pay via paypal and the seller has stated that is not acceptable and wants to cancel the sale.
If he throws his toys out then i am not that bothered about a bit of fishing tackle, i guess he is seeking to stop the paypal fees which on £580 would be a few quid.
now, how can this transaction be cancelled to ensure i dont get an unpaid item strike?

It might not be about the paypal fees! More like seller protection.
You could pay via paypal, collect the goods and then file an item not received notice with ebay/paypal. The seller cannot prove delivery via a trackable method, so you would be refunded and have the goods!
That's probably the reason.0 -
Pay immediately now by paypal, then he can't do an NPB or even if he does you can win an appeal as you'll have a transaction number. Is there any way you can talk this through with the seller, they might even be willing to give you a discount for cash.
Many sellers believe quite wrongly that they can insist on cash on collection, unfortunately for all of us as sellers they can't.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ask the Seller to do a Mutual Cancellation and you accept this when it arrives from ebay.
I expect the reason the seller will not accept Paypal for such a high value collection item is because PayPal do not cover Sellers if an item is not sent to the buyer by tracked means.
In effect, you could collect the item and then do an item not received through PP and you will get your money back as the Seller would not have any tracking information.
You could offer to do a Bank Transfer or take cash when collecting.
Hope this helps.0 -
What does it say in the listing? Was paypal given as a payment option? If not, then surely they can claim you shouldn't have bid on it.
Wouldn't advise bank transfer as a buyer (but love it as a seller)0 -

All sellers must offer paypal so as this was not a car then paypal showed as an acceptable payment method.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If I was a seller I wouldn't want to be paid by paypal for a collection. Seems far too risky.
I also can't understand why a buyer would want to. You pay, turn up, it's junk, do you still take it, or walk away and try to claim the money back?
What do you do if the buyer posts it to you? Or posts you a few bricks?
Much easier to turn up, look at the goods, pay the cash, shake hands, both happy.0 -
whilst paypal has to be accepted collection doesnt so the seller could easily say yes you can pay via paypal but the postage will be £xx amount, personally if someone is collecting an item i will not accept paypal as a payment and it will be stated in the listing, paypal payments get posted for the reason as above you the buyer can lodge an item no received and get your money backEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

There are many reasons why a buyer might choose to use paypal even on a collected item. It might be something as simple as needing to fund it via a credit card or it might be an item that requires a warranty or some sort of protection afterwards (that is not the case here). As sellers though we are unfortunately stuck with offering paypal and cannot refuse it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. alot of the same old lines being trotted out here about how the seller can't refuse paypal and sure enough ebay does insist that it is offered as a payment option but sometimes we have to put the rule book to one side and use a bit of common sense.
Where else can you go and dictate to someone selling something how you will pay?
the seller i'm assuming stated he wanted cash on collection, i'm assuming you read the listing before buying and so knew this and it is understandable that if you are going to collect the item the seller is not going to accept paypal as frankly he'd be a mug to do so, anyone could easily rip him off using ppaypal's chargeback system as no tracking number and your buyer will get refunded.
So as i say, common sense, the seller stated cash on collection, you bid on it so why not take the cash along with you that way you get to check the goods over before you hand over the cash and the seller doesn't risk getting scammed.
you could of course report him to ebay and try to force him to accept paypal but at the risk of losing £580 i'd wager he'd tell ebay to whistle and i would too. Then you could always neg him and report him some more untill he eventually gets naru'd but really, isn't it easier to just take the cash along with you when you go to collect?
or if you simply didn't read or understand the listing and did not realise the seller wanted cash on collection and you can't do cash on collection for whatever reason why not explain your mistake to the seller and seek an amicable solution such as a mutual transaction withdrawl i'm sure he'll be understanding, even if he is a little annoyed too, it annoy's me when people don't read listings or purposefully ignore them.
As i say, common sense is what is needed here, i'd forget the rule book because it's just not going to happen, against the rules or not the seller won't leave himself open to losing £580 and ask yourself this, if the roles were reversed....would you!!0 -
Common sense + ebay = doesn't compute.
Seller terms cannot over ride ebay rules, whether or not we sellers try and pretend they can/ Paypal on collection is perfectly acceptable and much as we wish it wasn't there is nothing as a seller we can do about it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
