My children's school isnt closed due to the snow, its more down to the boiler going pop on Monday and flooding the school, and it wasn't the head that made the call, it was the people that own the building and are responsible for it's upkeep.0

Some schools are told to close by the fire / ambulance service as well if they aren't able to service their area properly.0

My wife is a school teacher and has a 20 mile drive to school in all kinds of foul weather. She had a bad night's sleep last night worrying about the road conditions, but she was still out of bed at her usual time of 5.30am to get ready for the journey.
She reappeared about 20 minutes after leaving the house. She had spent all that time clearing the car of snow, when she received a text on her mobile from the school's Clarion system telling her the school would not be opening due to the weather and health & safety concerns.
She was blue with cold when she got back in, and genuinely annoyed that the school was shut. Don't ever imply that my wife is a skiver.

It also depends if it's actually because of the snow that they're shut. We had to shut before Xmas, when it was a little snowy, and the parents were complaining because they could get in fine. But it wasn't because of the roads that we had to close, it was because the heater's packed in and we couldn't have the kids in the cold school.0

I'm a teacher. Adult education for NHS staff, but a teacher none the less. I haven't gone into work this morning, not because I can't get out of my road but because the place I would be going (25 miles away) to is so badly affected by snow that it took some people 6 hours to travel the same 30 minute journey last night that I would have to undertake this morning.
Making stupid, pointless journies like this puts lives at risk from the cold and risk of accidents and in parts of the country the AA and the RAC and the police are advising people not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
Would you like your kids to be able to be educated at the end of this cold snap or would you prefer to be mourning the loss of a brilliant "well trained and well paid" teacher who tried valliantly not to skive and got caught up in an accident and killed?
I'm not feeling particularly comfortable sitting here knowing that the week long course that we started on Monday and Tuesday will now be cancelled leaving 18 people having attended the first 2 days and having to take more time off their jobs to finish the last 3 days. But what choice do I have, fly??

As a Husband of a long serving hard working teacher , I am delighted on the positive
replies to the Idiot that started this thread.
Teachers want to teach . They are not child minders , they pay for their initial training. some will have to travel long distances to school.
Here in the S.E house prices make commuting long distanced the norm for the younger staff.
So to the O.P , grow up , SHUT UP and be very grateful for the teachers when things get back to something like normal.0 -
I too work in a school which is closed due to the weather, i also know the difficult decision our head had to make in closing the school. It was not his decision alone he had to speak to the local council, the fire and ambulance services and was told because of the ice and the fact they could could not get up to the school we could not open in case of emergency ie the school set alight or some unfortunate child slipping on the ice. So please think before you complain as there is always a bigger picture and it is certainly not a decision to skiv for a day.Jan lunch to work days 0/200

I'm a student teacher and we have a snow day today. The school is closed because the grounds are too slippy and in this litigious society the school has to protect itself from any lawsuits that may arise from children injuring themselves on school property.
The OP is an idiot.0
