I think we must be grateful that not all-young people are like mbga9pdf and most get on with their lives I have one daughter and 2 stepsons they are all buying their houses. My daughter stays at home and looks after the children. One of my stepson lives in a so called shoebox which he bought on his own 4 years ago, he does not earn a fortune much less than mbga9pdf and managed to save his deposit by renting a cheap room, driving an old banger and saving hard.

You can't knock the ones who manage it in the end if you do it and are happy it can't be wrong. That's the thing about owning you cut your cloth you live with it.

It may be wrong it maybe right but you don't know until it is to late to turn back :)

OK, if you want to know, in the past 2 years I have spent nigh on 12 months out of the country. I work my !!!! off thank you very much. I regularly work shifts that are well in excess of UK allowances as per the norm. I have 1 car, a basic runaround, that isnt worth more than 500 quid. I sve over 80% of my takehome pay on a monthly basis. I havent been on holiday for over 3 years; I hate to point it out, your kids will be screwed and in negative equity for a long time if they arent careful. Just because they are making duff financial decisions to get on the ladder doesnt mean I have to does it? In your estimation, when will be their next opportunity to upsize their home?

Wid wales and its England boarder have fairly cheap property and not to far in travelling time from some major towns and citys.

Can strike a good life balance around there. Can I now have the not everywere is overpriced star now please.:)

I dare say the southern downsizers may change that in the near future though. :)
Between you and me...I watched a Hotel rescue thingy prog that someone recommended to me. It was set in Margate.

I am familiar with Thanet and the area as when the kids were small I used to drive down to Westgate for a beach day out and we would end the day by walking to Margate around the cliff and have fish+ chips and waste some £££ in the arcades. It is a dive in some ways but has a hidden charm about it.

The property they bought struck me as 'cheap' and I did a RM search.

This is to die for. I wouldn't turn it into flats but would do something like create a studio and a Lost Skills Centre and live up in the rafters maybe...but just a wannabe at the mo......but 420k asking struck me as not bad at all.

That's a lot of house for 299k to be fair. I know it's Wales..but still...not bad at all.

Its a prefab bungalow in tje remotest part of wales. I mentioned herefordshire because at least it is reasonably commutable to something called a Job? You know, the sort of thing you need to pay a mortgage?

Land in those parts is worth under 5000 an acre. 55 Grand for 11 acres. Are you telling me that a prefab bungalow in the middle of nowhere is worth 245K?

That says it all really you want a small holding as your first purchase but I'm a greedy so&so because I managed a 3 bed terrace

What was your deposit as a salary multiple then? I wasnt given a penny. We saved the lot and it wasnt easy.

It isnt going to bring in the 1700 a month that a 25 year mortgage would require when rates go up to 4% once you account for stamp duty after you cover expenses. Thats with 100K deposit.
Soz. Having one of those days.

How about a nice church? It would make an amazing art gallery/visitor space. Mind you, it's the 'job' thing again.

Any chance you could make your own job and go self/employed?

My house isn’t for sale similar one sold foe £277 in mid 2009 has a conservatory mine doesn’t I can’t show you no longer on right move. It’s only just in Surrey but Surrey none the less.

They have no desire to upsize and only time will tell if they’ve made bad decisions. Daughter actually lives in a bigger house than I do. How can that be me being a babyboomer and her thirty something.
