3.5X his wage and his £100K would get him a 5 bed detached in a very good area;).
I am not interested in a bloody 5 bed. I am more interested in a smallhold, perhaps in wales. If prices level for the nex 8 years (inflation eroded) I have no complaints. But one way or another, everyone, including leading economists say that the market is between 15 and 25% overpriced. 275K doesnt get you very much in these parts, even as far out as Herefordshire. especially once you get nailed for 3% stamp duty and a typical 1500 quid mortgage arrangement fee. Certainly with no-where near enough land for a smallholding (0.25 acre+)0 -
And you are a filthy thief. Dont expect my generation to pay for your retirement; by the time your generation have finished with the UK it will be finished. It must have ben nice to have the opportunity to enjoy your life whilst your wife could stay at home to bring up the kids; this is no longer an option for my generation.
I dont want the best for me; I despise consumerism, I am looking for the best for my kids. Something the UK will not be able to offer thanks to the Greed of your sort insisting on ever increasing house prices and restrictions on building new property.
I have thanked your post but mainly as I have never felt this anger before....thougn I have read quite a bit about 'generational theft' over the past few days.
We are mid 40's so are the sandwich generation (apparently) who pay masses of tax but will get little from the state in return later in life. We won't inherit much either due to the limit not increasing in line with HPI and the care home fees issue.
The HPI happened through other reasons...the older generation didn't 'make it' happen or 'do it' to spite the younger generation.
My grandfather had an unbelievable house compared to the job he did and he started with nothing. My grandmother never had to work and brought up the kids but do I resent them (now both dead, born 100 years back) and their lifestyle or blame it for mine (which feels much harder to maintain)???
Not really.
Things will pan out in time but holding a grudge just prevents one from getting on with life....only MHO of course.0 -

That's a lot of house for 299k to be fair. I know it's Wales..but still...not bad at all.0 -
I think we must be grateful that not all-young people are like mbga9pdf and most get on with their lives I have one daughter and 2 stepsons they are all buying their houses. My daughter stays at home and looks after the children. One of my stepson lives in a so called shoebox which he bought on his own 4 years ago, he does not earn a fortune much less than mbga9pdf and managed to save his deposit by renting a cheap room, driving an old banger and saving hard.0

I dare say the southern downsizers may change that in the near future though.0
