Best internet packages

  • Oh, and one other thing, the speed is probably determined by the length of wire to the exchange. This will remain the constraint with other suppliers.

Is it possible to save money by changing package with Orange ? This is likely to be the simplest way of "just" saving money.

OP, unless you tell us what samknows says, or tell us what exchange she is on, no-one can help you. Broadband availability is exchange specific.
The best deals will be on one of the LLU services, if any are available.
I doubt if your Mum needs an unlimited service, so if there are no LLU options then you could look at Plusnet Value, which has a 10GB monthly limit. This will cost either £5.99 or £11.99 depending on the category of her exchange.
There are plenty of bb services which do not require you to take your line rental or calls from the bb provider.

ok sam says the following: ADSL, SDSL, LLU available, no cable or wireless.
AOL, Orange, SKy/easynet, Talktalk (CPW) all available. Does that help?
  • And i forgot to say BT

Gem Im with orange, I use to pay £17.99 around 2007 the package is broad band plus wireless with a 2nd line VOIP live box talk service

Its now LLU (means cheaper) its 9.99 for 6 months then free the next 6 months, retentions package 12 month contract however I just ring and get the deal again had it 3 times now ;)

Ring orange 0800 980 1492 free phone, ask if its Rotheram, UK call center its near Sheffield. Ask for retentions or that you want your MAC code.

What package is your mum on?
  • i am not sure which orange deal she is on, i know she has been paying 17.99 a month for some time now. So it sounds like the best deal maybe to call Orange and tell them she wishes to leave orange and see what they can offer?
  • I think plusnet seems like a good one. For mums area 5.99 a month for 10gb usage, 3.5mb speed. 12month contract. She can go wireless if she wants, which is 6.99 p&p for the wireless router and she would then need to buy a wireless adapter for pc (if doesnt have one already) and i have found you can buy these for about £10. And she doesnt have to buy any call packages.

So i think i'll look into that, but may also give orange a call and see what they can offer to keep her as a customer i don't think she'll get better than 5.99 a month though.

    Thanks everyone.

Find out what her Orange package is? She could get a free wireless router to retain her. The speed will be only as good as the local exchange! If she is happy with orange she wont even have to change. A £5 a month maybe it may work out!

If you can get Plusnet at £5.99 (Market 1 exchange) then I would go with that, no need to move calls or line rental.
Cheapest overall option would be to go to TT for line rental.calls and bb on the LLU Esssentials package, but the CS from Plusnet is much better.
