Hi all, I have been diagnosed with clinical depression with panic attacks/anxiety all in. Joy :-)
I have been prescibed Citalopram for a few months but I am scared to take the drug in case I start feeling crazy or anything. I dont want to read the side effects as I am the kind of person who will probably make myself feel i have them even if i dont. What are others experiences? i have been given 20mg is this normal? Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Welsh,

Welcome to the club. I am also on citalopram, 20mg, as well as an anti-psychotic. It does take a while to kick in, but it makes me feel normal, not crazy. Without the medication I am crazy!! I suffer from severe depression, with anxiety, paranoia and psychosis (what fun!).

Believe me I was unsure about medication at first, but if your doctor says you need it then take it. Medication was the best thing that happened to me and I am currently leading a fairly normal life. I changed jobs and people in my new job do not know about my illness and they would not be able to even guess as I am quite well and calm at the moment and I attribute most of that to my medication.

Hubby was not too keen on me taking it and is worried that I will be on it forever, but if it makes my life happier, then why not?!

    Morning Ethel & everyone else.

Ethel - seems like our posts crossed. There do seem to be quite a few of us on Citalopram and everyone seems to be quite positive about the effects it has.

Well, things are still going well for me (touch wood!). Felt really ancy and fidgety last night, but hubby was working and I often get like that if I am on my own too much. He is also working all day today, so expect to see a lot of me today!!!

I really feel the exercise is working and I am starting to see the benefits. It has been 4 weeks since I started and I am able to do a lot more when I go to the gym and I do actually feel better after I have been. In some ways it also makes me feel more awake, as my medication does make me quite sleepy. (Although that is a good thing, couldn't handle the insomnia again!)

Hope everyone else is doing ok and look forward to chatting today.

Ethel, know what you mean, I can always feel the effects if I forget my meds for just a couple of days. I must admit my work is getting better since I have changed my job, not too much stress at all now. I get myself a bit stressed about the housework and chores at home, but I even seem to be fairly on top of those at the minute.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • Thank you Ethel, you've no idea how much that helps :)
Just knowing people are there seems to help, you know? I've done 17 weeks this time last year, so I know I can do this.
Its really hailing here, have you got it there? Which side of London are you at? I'm just out to the west.
I've got a heavy heart today.
