Also be aware of Oyster Extension Permits (OEPs)... if you decide to travel outside your travelcard zone ... Seems like a bit of a mess there ...0

Slightly off-topic, but why is London transport so expensive? Every other major city I've been to has had metro systems that cost half or less of the cost of a trip on the London Underground.poppy100

Because other major cities are happy or at least willing to pay a larger subsidy for their transport.0 -
The downside of the Oyster introduction for some train services in London is the removal of the cheap day return and the introduction of peak travel times between 16.00 and 19.00. This means that travel into London in the early evening and return later will cost one peak single plus one off-peak single. The total cost is about 13% higher than before Oyster and with the cheap day return.0

Ah I thought that - was costing up a trip to Hampton court which I did in the summer for £6.20 return - the cheapest I could get it now on paper ticket was £9.80 (roughly) return and a bit less on oyster - but the original off-peak return fare was definitely cheaper than both are now - that is proper crumby in my opinion!!!
I was excited about this change but it just seems another smokescreen to put up fares0 -

It was reported last year when season ticket rail fares where being reduced due to inflation, that unregulated rail fares like cheap day returns would go up in price to compensate.
So even if Oyster had not been introduced the fares would have gone up.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

But the cheap day return has disappeared on that route :eek:, so you can only buy a peak return or two singles!!! Thats just crazy...0 -
Sorry if I'm being a luddite, but why haven't customers been notified about this? And where does it apply?
I live in zone 6 (Orpington) but don't recall seeing any Oyster swipe points at the station at all. Where can you see where this has been implemented and costs?0 -
I was notified by email - have you registered your osyter?
Here's the link in the email anyway:

Hope it helps!0
