There are quite a few differences in the series compared to the books. They have emphasized some characters in the series that are pretty much unnoticed in the books. A few stories are greatly "tweeked" for TV too. You'll realise as soon as book 1. I don't want to spoil it for you!
Season 1 and 2 are based (loosely) on books 1 and 2, so you can see there is plenty more to learn, since there are nearly 10 books now! Enjoy!
