Ring microsoft, its the shops liability really but its far faster and easier to go to MS direct, the number should be in the paperwork that came with the xbox.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

  • If you ring Microsoft they'll need the serial number off the back and they'll arrange for it to be collected and repaired free of charge, I think they have extended the guarentee specifically for this problem to 3 years?

They have for some time now.

Pick up, repair and return is all free.
When my son's got fixed, they sent a replacement and didn't repair it, though the Xbox was over 2 years old.
I'm not sure if that's still standard practice though.

Just to let you know that it can depend on how many of the segments are red as to what the problem is:

You can get 1 to 4 Xbox 360 red ring errors and the meaning of all these error codes is different.
1 red light indicates that there is general hardware related problem with the console,
2 red lights indicate the overheating of the console,
3 red lights indicate the red ring of death and
4 red lights indicate that you need to tighten your AV console wire.

I think only 3 is the fatal one and the rest can be fixed without sending it off to microsoft although if it is still under warranty you might aswell but can take upto a month for the turnaround

You should register YOUR Xbox online anyway, from there its even easier than calling MS.

Everything goes with a couple of clicks and it also tells you if the Box is still in Warranty.

May I add: Any broken security tags will void any kind of warranty. Not saying that you flashed your box or anything, just fyi.

Unless you were smart and slowly peeled the warranty tag back with the assistance of a hairdryer ;)

    Hi
The current issue of MicroMart has an article about fixing the XBox 360.
It explains what causes it to happen, where to get the repair kit from and a walk thru' explanation of the fix with pictures.
The kit is from www.ck3.com and costs £14.95 the kit name is RROD Fix Pro.
The current issue of Micromart is No 1087 dated 30th Dec 2009 to 6th Jan 2010, cost is £2.
Hurry though because the new issue will be out on Thursday
