Mine are all at the lottie - I brought some back on Sunday and boy, am I glad I grew so many winter squashes!!!!! Lottie is 4 minutes cycle away and about 10 mins walk - so going back tomorrow for another load of food.
Making bread tonight - with the stores of flour bought when on offer over November and December. And got enough milk for a few more days.
I love it - all the 'making do'!
ETA: I have a stash of couscous that I'm going to crack open this week as well.....yippee!!!!0 -
When i started reading this thread i would have said no to enough food to last a few days, but thinking about it while reading i can say YES!!!, i have beans, toms soups, pasta rice etc. The freezer has 3 joints of meat ( all reduced prices) they will each easily do 2 main meals and left overs for 4, masses of veg from the lottie and what i have brought as whoopies, as well as all the other stuff we hoard in freezers. So i can honestley say i am ready for anything lol0

I have no eggs. Other than that [STRIKE]fairly[/STRIKE] well supplied. I was going to get eggs from the butcher near ds's school, but the bus didn't get through this morning, so didn't bother."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I read on the news that a fair bit of snow was coming our way, so went shopping yesterday instead of today, and managed to stock up on essentials.
I already had quite a bit in, and have always had some sort of food store, as my health also determines when I can or can't go out.
I don't food store for 'end of the world' type stuff though, just so that if I couldn't go out for a couple of days, then we wont go hungry

... I don't food store for 'end of the world' type stuff though, .. .
I used to do that years ago but I'm much more selective of what I keep in these days, dried milk, flour, bread flour, pasta and rice plus a few tins of veg including tomatoes and baked beans. With what I have from my normal online shop I have plenty to keep us going. If all else fails I'd be ok with a slice of bread and jam and a cup of tea!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

The sickening thing to me is that this is only a few days after they end of the worlded for Xmas and then did same again for NY..I dread to think how much ended up in a landfill esp as there are ppl like me and also ppl worse off who would be grateful for waste , leftovers and spare food.:mad:What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

Anyway there's a Tesco Express round the corner, a big Tesco 20 mins walk away and the M5 just a bit further up the road so we aren't exactly isolated. I appreciate that some people are but assume they plan accordingly.

Guilty as charged thriftlady, I've been that excited when I've actually got to Tesco over the past two weeks that I come away with next to nothing useful
We did get a 3kg bag of fresh pasta from Morrisons on Christmas Eve for only 9p though which we duly portioned up into bags for the freezer :j0 -

One thing I try not to do is waste food, because, as you say, someone else would really appreciate having it to waste. It wasn't always the case, but you learn as you go on.
Interestingly, I was talking about this with someone recently, and they said that years ago, school food waste would be sent to pig farms, for the pigs, but they aren't allowed to do that now. No idea whyHowever, the amount wasted is shocking.
One of the things I try to teach DDs is that food is to be eaten not thrown away, and I hope they carry that on with them when they are adults. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
Thanks to this site and of course my dear Mums advice over the years, I have enough in and have avoided going anywhere near the supermarkets. Today I have made a couple of loaves of bread up and have some spicy lentil soup bubbling away in the slow cooker. We could do with some fresh eggs but can last out without.
Our boiler is playing up (yes the condensing pipe is lagged) so my main concern is keeping warm. We have plenty of throws, warm clothes, bootie slippers (cheapie copy uggs), candles, wind up torch radio and somewhere a camp stove. Everytime I boil the kettle I top up our thermos flasks, but then I do try to do that anyway.
I keep a good supply in as I have ME/CFS so some good days but also bad days where I can't get out. It's not the end of the world but it is inconvenient!
Stay warm and take care!
