its all relative Kim and your comment wasn't neccersary. Most players don't own one of the largest websites either and as its Martins if he wants to blog about it then he can
The nature and subject matter of this site means I would hope that Lewis is numerate and literate enough to know just how rubbish and unremarkable that score is. If he had scored 158 points using just one triple then that would be worth mentioning.0 -

As I said its all RELATIVE!, to me that would be an awesome score because I hardly play the game, to a scrabble champion it may just be deemed as averageAlways ask ACAS0 -
No, it is not relative. You're still not getting it. Placing a treble treble is an awesome event. Scoring 158 when playing a treble treble is disappointing and not awesome. The title of this thread is '158 point single go scrabble joy'. It is not 'Played a treble treble scrabble joy'. The emphasis is on the points scored - that is simply wrong.0

Best score I ever had was 185 points. I got the word 'RELAXI G. I used a blank representing the letter 'N'. (15 X 9 + the 50 bonus points).
20 years ago or so, we were four people playing Scrabble in a guest house in Bangkok, Thailand. The person before me had put down horizontally the word 'REMIX' in the bottom right corner with the 'X' covering the 'Double Word Score' square. Then I put down R,E,L,A,used the 'X' already there,I,the Blank and G. I got both Triple Word Scores giving me the nine times. That made my day.
I don't think I'll ever beat my own 185 points though.0 -
Martin, just wanted to point out "The answer… it’s in the white space below; simply highlight the section to read it:"
Um, no it isn't, it's on plain view for all to see thus slightly ruining the 'mini quiz' element of the blog entry :rolleyes:0 -
well i must say i was impressed with my score of 167 using the word avionics and my best game score is 547, i have to play online as none of my friends can make anything bigger than a four letter word and its not challenging.....0

It is relative, if its the first time done and if it has surpassed any previous score by the player by a long way then that is an awesome event.
Its like a golfer playing golf who normally plays to a 28 handicap who then goes and hits a round to an 18 handicap, whilst its not professional standard it is still an awesome event as its relative to the playerAlways ask ACAS0 -
Martin, why are you bothering to take your average over all your games played? If you are still on an upward trend and you have played 100's of games and your moving one point this means that you are probably averaging over 440 for the last ten games.....want to let us know what your last 10 game average is?Always ask ACAS0

My rolling average is 426 on the last 20 games - but the key for me is to drive the all time average upOriginally Posted by KimYeovil

As for the point about 156 on a treble treble not being good - while of course for me its my best ever so i love it - I know pro players get much higher scores - sadly I dont have time to focus on proper competitive letter scrabble.
Though forgive me but l I think your analysis of it being a poor score slightly ridiculous - the key question is on the that board with those letters could I have scored any more - Im not sure that is possible? Do let me know if under the scenario I've described you have a word that does it differently (there were no other trebles accessible)Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Another scrabble addict I got 221 points for JIGGERED when my opponent kindly dropped the letter G which I needed between the two reds at the top of the board.
