I suppose we'll have to have a new sofa/armchair. Where is cost effective?

Have you tried Plumbs - they make covers for all shapes and sizes?0

Be careful with sofasofa...it is actually a collection of several different makers under one banner and quality can vary from one maker to another. I have one sofa I bought from them around 10 years ago and it is still great. I bought another one last Xmas ( different style and manufacturer) and the cushions were really pathetic, absolutely NO support. I ended up getting new cushion inners made fro foam as I liked the overall style.
The BEST thing is the removable washable covers they offer... I have 4 cats and 2 cream sofas!! They often have good offers on cheap replacement covers so you can update the sofa or change colours.0 -
I second Thomas Lloyd, whatever they trade under. Found the sofasofa website and wasn't sure about buying without seeing "in the flesh" so we actually went to Cardiff to have a nosy but am sure the order process is the same. We bought leather but there's loads of fabric ones too. Really good prices. I think the delivery was about 30 quid to anywhere in the country. They gave us an estimate date and then phoned about a week in advance to tell us the actual delivery date.We got one from here: www.sofasofa.co.uk
There was a mix up with the delivery date which I wasn't happy about, but once we got the actual sofas, I fell in love with them! They're really well made and very comfortable and I've got no complaints. Plenty visitors have commented how comfy they are too.0 -
My mum didn't pay all that much as I recall to get her sofa re-covered and it did make it up to be as good as new again - literally looks better than half the DFSish stuff and you'd never guess it must be pushing a decade old now. Of course then you need a stop-gap while they have it away, but you could get something cheap as chips and then pass it on afterwards - possibly Freecycle/re-freecycle?
Only sofa shops I can think of in Notts are the big chain ones but I've not lived here that long myself so still lack local knowledge (I only just found out there was a Sainsburys in Beeston today and I've lived near here a year now!)Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I bought a 3 piece from Divani, now owned i think by Sofa Sofa, and it still looks good as new, 8 years later, despite having four of us jumping around on it daily; really impressed by them.0

I live in Cardiff and had no idea sofasofa existed! Was going to go to DFS, but will definitely take a trip down there first.
Other places I have looked at are Harveys and SCS which I think also have similar interest free deals, but nothing I really liked.0 -
I bought a sofa and armchair from furniture kingdom in June. It was quite expensive-£1100 for a large 2 seater and 1 armchair [we only have a small sitting room] but I do find them very comfortable and good quality. They are chenille fabric and they did have a selection of fabrics and colours for you to choose from so I would assume that you would be able to get dark blue.0

Hi, I got my current sofa and chair from harveys, The frame broke after 13 months in the sofa, This was while I was in hospital, One of the boys could have jumped on it - but was not covered by garantee so we turned it over and cut the bottom out,
really shocked the frame was held together with staples, the straight piece of wood at the front of the sofa is really warped. we pushed the wood back in place and refixed with wooden battens and Screws! Which has held.
But its poor quality considering I paid £1200 for a 3 seater and 1 chair! I love the fabric though and have loose covers, which I can shove in the washer.
I dont think I will buy from harveys again ( although I suspect many of the furniture is made in the same place abroad and shipped here to different stores )0 -
Ikea do some in navy blue - for a very reasonable price. Others may have had problems, but my parents once bought a sofa and chair from there and got excellent wear out of them. They were so comfy....

Thomas Lloyd make all their furniture themselves in Wales. Their website tells you how they construct the sofa's and how they test the fabrics and stuff. It read it all before we bought ours and I found it interesting. Here I go again on my own....0
