I suppose we'll have to have a new sofa/armchair. Where is cost effective?

Hi, I would go with your origional plan and get a new sofa from DFS on the free credit deal.
I bought a new sofa from there a few years ago now, I posted about a problem we had with the leather around 6 months ago.
To cut a long story short they replaced the sofa free of charge, there aftersales is fantasic so if you have any problems at all with a sofa you buy go and tell them.
Definately dont go to argos, everyone I know who has bought one from there had to chuck it after 12 months.

DFS = Damaged from supplier.

Would not touch them with a long bargepole. There are many people happy with their stock, but just as many unhappy. Search DFS on this website and you'll see.

OP needs to advise how much they want to spend and on what. I would certainly recommend Sofasofa, or if the OP wants to take a chance, try the trade/sample shops for either Derwent Upholstery or Westbridge Upholstery who make for the likes of Furniture Village, and other High St retailers...

Check out the local charity shops. We got some marvellous armchairs from the local Sue Ryder shop for £40 each.
