You have muddied the waters here by dealing with the letting agent via e-mail instead of the landlord via recorded delivery, so I am at a bit of a loss as to know exactly what I'd do in your shoes. My gut reaction is that you have had NO formal communication with the one person who is responsible for returning your deposit, and this needs to be rectified. Whatever arrangements are being made between two people you have NO professional relationship with (letting agent/ landlord's father) to repair a property you no longer occupy are really not of interest to you! Just write to the landlord and ask for your deposit returning or a full response to your earlier e-mail.

do you mean agent? they looked after and dealt with everything. we dont have contact details for landlady.
    thanks again

if you are to take court action after you leave, it will be the LL you will have to take to court - if you dont have his address, ask for it in writing now, as you cannot legally ask after you have left

have you looked in your tenancy agreement for the LL address ?>

Just an update - received a response to my reply.

None of my questions were asked, and they have said that the LL's dad is dealing with the issue as the LL is away.

Am i right in assuming that the LL's dad has no authority to reply to the DPS, as he isn't named on the Tenancy Agreement?

What happens if LL is unable to reply?

They've said they are going to send the dispute to the DPS, but i think im just going to do it myself?

Not had an answer regarding the inventory. I also said that the inspector witnessed us using the gate and door which are now "broken" - no response to that either.

They again offered a 50/50 split, am i right in assuming that they cannot just invent figures to deduct from the deposit? Am i also right in assuming that if they are offering a 50/50 split, then 50% of the deposit isnt being disputed so should be returned to us immediately?

    Thanks
