Interesting this as I'm looking at a temp internet solution as I'm between homes. Do have unlimited internet on my contract (o2), but don't want to use this tethered as I don't want to risk a huge bill.
Got a few PAYG sims with free credit (orange/Virgin), would it just be a case of using a 3g enabled phone and link it? Got a unlocked MDA II (HSDPA IIRC), once plugged in it'll charge via USB so no battery issues. Would only use a few hundred mb a month.0 -

Yeah use the orange sim and the phone as a modem via USB cable. I use to use mine now and again when i had the old Sony Err K800i, and worked fine. With that phone i remember i had to make some changes to the settings on the modem drivers to get the higher speeds out of it.
Might be worth picking up a PayAsYouGo Dongle up from ASDA for £20, then replace the simcard.0 -
Okey folks what you been waiting for.
Tesco PayAsYouGO + USB DONGLE
113MB downloaded in 15mins
Getting anywhere from 50/KBs to 197/KBs connection speed, with an adverage of 133/KBs This was taken betten the hours of 21:40 - 22:00 on a friday night.
Costing £1 per month.
It took me a while to get the USB DONGLE to reconise the TESCO sim, but seem to be working perfect, now just a case of how long i can keep it up before TESCOS flags me, and what they do.
Will keep ya posted.0 -
UPDATE
Crap that idea then LOL.
You have a 200MB Fair Usage, once you hit 90% of your limit you get a text msg warning you how much you've used. You then get another when you have exceeded.
After you have reached your limit you are then charged £4 per MB and it took my remaining free credit from me in a matter of seconds.
For light use, not going over 200MB this is not bad.. But back to Orange i think...0
