Free Mobile Broadband Internet? Multipul Connections to Create 1 BIT PIPE

Free Mobile Broadband Internet? Multipul Connections to Create 1 BIT PIPE
I'm playing around with an idea, and welcome and input from people. Basically i'm looking at trying to achive unlimited broadband speeds while trying to achive an almost 0 Cost. Effectivly Free Broadband.

Tescos are offering £2 a Week Unlimited Internet. Also they do there double and tripple topup offer.

If i topup £10 they will match it, giving me £20 total. It also says you can use the free airtime credit for internet browsing and that your free airtime credit is used first, which runs out after that month.

So if i have this right, I could pay for the internet at £2 per week and this will be taken away using the free airtime given first, leaving me with my actual £10 i purchased which never runs out.

Effectivly so far giving me free internet usage, however i still had to layout £10 which i still have to spend at this time.

Now there is services out as we all know that let you buy things by sending a text msg, which is charged at a premium rate; but you can also sign up to these companys and receive payments too, via mobile texts.

One i know off, if you was to send a text setup to deduct £10, you as the receiver would get £6.14 before Vat in earnings.

This is just a means to enable you to claw back as much as possible of your inital £10 deposit.

So in effect you could be looking at USB Broadband Internet at a cost of £3.84p for 1 months usage.

Now i've not tested Tescos usage policy yet, or there speeds, but i know they run on 02s network which is quite fast. But again i've not really abused the 02 service for mass downloads either.

However an orange payasyougo sim, i topped up £5 to get 1 week internet usage and managed to get 2-3GB of download per day, leaving my laptop on 24/7. A friend of mine also managed to do do this over a month when he was away from home.

It might seem a lot of messing around but really your just topping up £10, activating your free internet, and then sending a text msg, which could take less than 5mins work, if that.

Now this is where it gets more interesting. If you can get hold of some software which can manage multipul Internet connections, and convert them in to one BIT PIPE you could be looking at running serveral of these with a relitivly low cost.

£3.84 Per month to run each Connection. If you adverage just 1meg download speed, you could be looking at a 5mb connection for the cost of £19.20

I currently live in an area where i can only get a 2mb line, and for that i have to pay my BT line rental which is what? £11.25 straight away before i even consider my Broadband supplyer. And then i am fixed into a 18month contract and limited to using it only at home.

At the momenent i know of a company which has produced an application for almost all nokia phones, any phone running symbian. They are the first to enable multipul mobile phones to connected with each other creating one combined wifi connection creating one BIT PIPE, allowing then any wifi device to connect and use the combind internet connection.

tesco's dont do mobile broadband and i think youve confused mobile broadband with gprs that you get on the phone

if you use it as a modem the bundles dont work

They allow internet browsing just as 02 do on there payasyougo accounts, aimed for smartphones and iphones etc. But there is nothing stopping you tethering or putting them in a Unlcoked USB Broadband dongle Dongle.

Orange is the same, and i took there payasyougo and hammered over 20GB in a week.

If you take a nokia phone, and put any payasyougo in, you can browse the internet using there internet web browsing. 3G+ connections giving you around a 1-2MB download speeds, but generaly phones dont require that much speed.

However there is ways you can tether a phone now to a computer without the need of bluetooth or a data cable which might give the impression your using the phone as a modem and obvioulsy the operator can tell what OS or Browser your using. This is how the unlimted iphone on payasyougo sims work.

Instead you can connect to the phone using the wifi if built into the phone and leach its internet connection. the operators then think you are just download from the handset browing as normal, execpt of course the unusual download speeds.

I've done this on the T-MOBILE, ORANGE and O2 with no issues. some speeds differ. T-MOBILE will send you text allerts are you hit there 1GB download usage, and the speed drops massibly.

Orange had no limited at all to it, and when i tryied on my current 02 sim, i just got a warning after 500meg etc.

Well i'm off to tescos now, to buy a sim and try. so we will see but it should be no different than any other payasyougo, just a case of seeing what fair usage actualy kicks in.

nothing at all, apart from the terms and conditions

I reckon if you want 20 GB of use per week, which seems to be one of the details you've mentioned, you'll soon find yourself blocked for fair use considerations

I don't understand why you're being so coy about naming other products involved. And note that one of them is in beta, free of charge, and therefore might be subject to fair use as well.

And you'll need a lot of battery charging to keep 4 or 5 phones going with 3g and wi-fi, if that is what you mean
  • Sorry didnt mean to be coy, Joiku.com is the company who has designed a software app for any Symbian OS phone. It takes your wifi and internet connection and turns your phone into a wifi hotspot allowing multipul laptops etc to connect to your phone and use the internet connection.

The have released a beta version called Joiku Boost. This allows one phone to be the main client while additional handsets running the software can connect to the main phone creating one large BIT PIPE again broadcasting as a wifi hotspot. However this is only beta on Nokias at the moment.

In regards to fair usage if i was to end up using the amounts i mentioned it shouldnt realy matter if that sim got banned. Because its not my main number, it would be a case of bin the simcard and get a new one since you can get your hands on them free these days.

Power consumtion would be something to think about, only think i could think of would be to use a powered usb HUB perhaps depending on the extremities and how fair you could go with this idea.
  • Well i tryied it but only briefly as the £2 Unlimted doesnt activate for anywhere upto 24-48 hours. and i was getting around 1 MB tethering my laptop from my mobile.

Just need to wait until my bundle is active and then see what i can get away with, or what limits before i notice a change of service.

well, if you really do want up to 100 GB a month, I doubt you'll get any sympathy from ordinary users who put up with too much network contention

but I can't see why you don't get a 3g/HSDPA router instead of trying out multiples on Joiku, find the best network strength where you are, and perhaps add a decent aerial if necessary

When i downloaded the ammount i did with Orange that was more of a test, so see what was possible and what would happen if anything at all. I mainly use the internet for general surfing but too also download all my fav tv shows, which on adverage take around 400mb per show. Depending on the time of the year etc i can be looking at around 10-20 tv shows to download per week. At the moment its quiet with xmas and the US taking a 2month break inbetween shows.

Originaly from Hull which has its own communications network where BT has no lines. Meaning your only choice is Karoo for your internet, this also ment no price wars between customers, so you was looking at £11 line rental and £20-£30 for an 8MB line with unlimited download during the hours of midnight till 7am when most are asleep.

Now living in BT land, i'm looking at moving, but i dont want to be forced into any 18month contract as i might be moving back to hull. That and i dont use the home phone for any calls, just to get internet.

What i'm looking for is a mobile solution which would still allow me to download my tv shows as and when i like without the conventional limitation mobile devices bring to the table and cost.

I've looked at 3G routers, but then its a case of finding a decent router which can use a 3G sim card, but still have all the additional features my current router has like firewall setting, port forwarding etc etc. And then most i have seen only allow the use of 1 Sim card.
  • Hi Neildwattam.

I'm massively interested in mobile broadband.

I'm cureently on Orange 3gb contract and I dont have enough limits even for browsing! Ebay is draining it aswell!

So I'm looking for an alternative or an additional method of acquiring more.

I could get a contract or a new phone and a sim only deal or a PAYG deal.

But there is so much variation I dont know what is best.

You seem well informed on this so could you offer any more information/advice on this area particular my circumstances .

What is the precedure and costs involved wih the PAYG.

    Regards

    Hay,

I've tryed several networks so far, all on the pay as you go range, this was mainly because i didnt want to fear any additional costs if you was to go over your fair usage, and if you was to get told off to a point where they disabled your sim you could just go out and get another one.

One of my friends and myself as mentioned have both tryied the Orange Pay As You Go Sim, mainly because at the time we where on orange and knew the 3G network in our area was good.

My friend used his for general surfing for a month when he was living away from home, and used around 6GB in that time period with no issues, again this was just general day to day surfing.

Myself i tryied it for one week to push the limit to see what was possible getting around 20GB in that time frame. This was leaving my laptop on 24/7 download from newsgroups. Every 24 hours i noticed the connection dropped, this i beleive to be they only allow the connection to stay open at any one time to be 24 hours.

The adverage speed was around 1meg, which isnt to bad, performing better off peak times.

Orange do whats called extras, and you can purchase unlimited internet £1 per day or you can get 1 week for £5. So over a month period your looking at £20 with a possible download of 100GB if you was go crazy. Even at the rate my friend was using thats still good falue for money with no contract hanging over your head.

Orange do block some websites due to the 18 year restriction, but you can have this lifted with no problems, just a protective mesure due to adult content etc.

Orange also that i can tell dont render any images, down scaling them, another plus i found.

I'm still yet to test the TESCO which will work out cheaper, as little as £5 per month i've costed it to, buy purchasing there sim pack from tesco direct at £5 with £10 free credit, paying £2 per week then for internet usage. However because i've not tested it, i'm unsure on the usage.

As mentioned i'm looking at using some cheap nokias which support symbian that will allow the use of some special software to combin multimul connections as one for increased download speeds, but will offer more on this onces i've tested it.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
