  • OK guys need some more help please.

Have downloaded the oph software onto CD. When I place in the PC and open the file it opens NTI CD & DVD writing software. I have tried F8 and booting from CD but everytime the Admin user account is selected it asks for the password and I cant get anywhere.

I need some idiot proof instructions step by step please!

    Thanks.

You are not booting off the CD from what you say.

The first thing to check is what you are burning to CD - the file is a .iso image file, so it needs to be burnt to disk as an image (something like create disk from image) so that you will see a number of files on there when complete. If you just copy the iso file to a disk it will do nothing.

Secondly you need to make sure you are booting from CD, either by selecting boot options, or changing the order in the BIOS - either way, you usually get a prompt to 'Press any key to boot from CD'.

download imgburn from here and use it to burn the oph...iso to cd
  • OK, please bear with me.

I have downloaded imgburn and created a disc with the iso files on, all good.

However, how do I get the file to run on the PC?

I have hit F8, there is no option to boot from CD.

Hitting F2 brings up what I think is a dos menu. I can find the option here to boot from CD, hit F10 to save and exit. The PC then boots and comes up with the two user accounts 'Admin' and 'User'. I then can't do anything with the admin account as I don't have the password!

I feel that I am so close, yet can't see where I am going wrong!

    What should I be doing?

    Thanks!

I have downloaded imgburn and created a disc with the iso files on

When you burnt the disk with Imgburn, which option did you use:
'Write image file to disc' or 'Write files/folders to disc'
    You must use the first.

I found this to show you how to select the CD for boot, although you may have done some of it already.
Shut the notebook completely down. Now turn it back on, and as soon as the Acer screen comes up, hit the “F2″ key to enter the BIOS. Navigate to the second page of the BIOS (titled “Main”) by pressing the right arrow key.

You must now turn on the F12 Boot Menu by selecting it with your arrow keys, hitting Enter, and changing it to “Enabled”

Now switch to the “Exit” page, and hit Enter to “Exit Saving Changes”. The BIOS will ask you to confirm, tell it “Yes”.

Now the notebook will reboot, and you must hit F12 to boot from your CD.

On the “Boot Manager” screen, chose the second option which should be an ATAPI drive, such as a DVD-RW or CD-RW, highlight it with your arrow keys and press Enter.

The PC then boots and comes up with the two user accounts 'Admin' and 'User'.
On a slightly different track - if this is exactly what you see, then it's quite likely that 'Admin' is an account you have created and not the real inbuilt 'Administrator' account (which won't show on the Welcome screen).
If, as has been suggested previously, you boot into safe mode by hitting F8 during the boot, you should then see 3 users - 'Admin', 'User' and 'Administrator'. If you can log in as 'Administrator' with no password (sometimes you can), then you should be able to reset the password for 'Admin'.

    Hi many thanks.

    Here's what I am doing:

On booting the PC I am hitting F8
    Selecting Safe Mode

Then when PC boots into Safe Mode it is coming up with 'Admin' which I created, and 'User' which I also created with parental controls.

I can not logon to Admin, if I logon to User then I can not do anything as I don't have Admin rights!

    Enable Built-in Administrator Account
First you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” (or use the Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box)

Yes but..... I cant sign in as admin, only into an account with parental controls :-(

Anyone want an Acer before it flies out the window??

If you are really struggling to follow or implement all the advice you have been given then you really only have 3 options as I see it

1 Take it into a pc repair shop who should be able to wipe all passwords in about 5 minutes
2 Do a clean re install of windows, but lose all data
    3 Buy new pc

or alternatively thrash the one responsible to within an inch of his life or until they tell you the password, whichever comes first.
