  • Hi Guys, my partner is having the same bad experience with Abbey right now that has been running for quite some time. She attempted to withdraw £100 from a non Abbey ATM, normal procedure pin number, amount etc etc.ATM dispenses card but no cash!??(I should mention at this point the ATM is outside a local shop and as the card was being dispensed a woman exiting the shop spoke to my partner advising her not to use the machine as it wasn't working properly!) Okay, so off she goes to the ATM at her Abbey branch (few mile away) and attempts to withdraw £100, and she also gets a mini statement, it shows this withdrawal and another (minutes before) for another £100! to cut a long story short she has complained about the whole situation, and the bank has explained after investigation the non abbey ATM was 'supposedly working' at the time of her initial withdrawal! so where has the £100 gone? and where does she stand?

damsidebar - someone in the shop that refills the machine has probably had the cash.

Thats all good and well, but it doesn't solve the problem and we are still £100 out of pocket!

I didn't say it did. That is why I only use official bank cash machines. I used to work in the pub industry and a number of my colleagues would openly say they kept any notes left, or not dispensed, as long as the machine balanced at the end of each day. With the ones in the banks there are more checks done, usually two people empting and filling the machines.

Like i say previously thats great, but i was looking for advice on where my partner stands, not statements along the likes of 'thats why i only use official bank cash machines'(with all due respect) FYI the ATM in question is a clydesdale bank ATM, i would say thats pretty 'official' wouldn't you agree?
