At the end of the day, the 1st to 3rd Jan have not been bank working days.

Therefore unfortunately any atm dispute takes a while.

And the time quoted of 22 days is quite correct. If it was an Abbey ATM then it's a simple investigation process, however as it was another banks ATM then we have to liase with them and obviously certain departments are not open on bank holidays/non bank working days.

I wonder why people choose Abbey, A+L and those Icelandic "banks" when there are so many proper banks to choose from?

abbey were a lot different when i joined them 10 years ago, i had been with halifax and they had made a mess of my account many times

i have learned my lesson, never believe abbey's indian call centre, they are cheap to employ and lie all the time

apparently the timescale is very similar (1 or 2 days less) if its an abbey machine
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

If you are with Abbey and have to call their call centre just ask politely to be put through to the call centre in Bradford, not open at nights. They will refuse to start with but just explain that it is nothing to do with them but you have had bad experience with the call centre in India and would prefer to speak to some in Bradford, just check with them first that they are in India as if you ask to be put through to Bradford and it is Bradford they may get upset. I did this when Abbey machine ate one of my cash cards and then I couldn't tell them my account number to transfer money as the only thing I had on me was the card that the machine had just eaten.

Don't think they are lying but just think they are not trained correctly.

I'm also in the process of leaving the abbey as it took me over 2 months to get my new debit card.
for whatever reason they sent it to the branch which I could not attend because of my work pattern. I was told 3 times by their indian call centre and supervisor that they would send it to my house which they didn't (I kept on getting more letters telling me to go into the branch). When I called again, I got through to the Bradford call centre who told me that there was a setting that overrode anything you tried to change so this is what needed changing. She changed this and I asked why I wasn't told this before and she said that the Indian call centre hasn't been trained in a lot of things!

Nevertheless, I got my card and nevertheless, I have opened a new account with another provider!

Well, I actually opened it with Halifax. I now know about their crappy overdraft charges but I don't go into them ever so it doesn't matter! I have found them very good so far but also had an easycash account with them which we opened over a year ago.

    Are you looking to switch?

The Bradford staff go through between a week and two weeks of training before they even start doing practise calls. They are also very tough on anyone that doesn't follow proper procedures, they are getting tighter as time goes on. I used to work there and still have friends that do. I am also in process of trying to close my accounts, but they should have been closed on 24th December 2008 so I'm not holding out much hope.

tell everyone you know, boycot the abbey

Bit melodramatic don't you think? Personally, I'm pretty happy with them and don't much feel like joining a boycott just because you're £20 down for a few days. But I'll be sure to tell everyone I know!

No, I was just wondering who you both thought were a better option. My main account is with the Nationwide and I have a joint account with the Abbey, neither of whom I've had problems with and neither of which had to be bailed out by taxpayers which I think says something for them.
