also, if you're taking the route of not eating pistachios ever again because of what you found this one time in the past couple of years, be glad you have only found a worm in your nuts (roflcopter). if you'd have found some of the things i've seen in my research in the last few years, you wouldn't touch food ever againhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Surely there are quality control processes in place at the manufacturers though? if there is one in this one they could have a health and safety problem that might need bringing to light?
I would hope at the very least they would investigate the production line and make sure its up to food hygiene standards, wouldnt they?
I'd imagine that the maggot had crawled into the nut prior to it being harvested rather than being inserted on the production line. I'm not sure what could be done to prevent this happening short of x-raying every single nut they process.
I'm also not sure that there is a health and safety issue here. I'll admit that I wouldn't be happy to find a cooked maggot in my nuts, and if I did I wouldn't eat it, but as far as I'm aware there's no actual risk to health from eating one. Just because we, in this country, are conditioned to believe that maggots are horrible little creepy crawlies it doesn't make them in any way poisonous.
In fact if you watch the likes of Ray Mears, Bear Grylls, Bruce Parry etc on the telly you'll find that there are people in other parts of the world whose normal everyday diet includes far less appealing things like snails, grubs, ants, etc. Personally if I was given the choice of going to a posh French restaurant and being served a plate of snails or of sitting at home and being served ready salted maggots I think I'd prefer the maggots! The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

Remember Crocodile Dundee
"Tastes like sh1te but you can live on it"
I suggest that ASDA give you your shopping free for a year to make up for the distressIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
I'm sure roasted, salted maggot is a delicacy in some far flung country lol
I always wonder though why we have such a problem with stuff like that yet will happily drink Tequila with a worm in the bottom0 -
You can even buy cheese containing live maggots in Sardinia:

hmmmmWhen disturbed, the larvae can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in). Some people clear the larvae from the cheese before consuming; others do not.
Not a cheese to sniff then

Served with strong red wine apparently. Presumably you have to drink large quantities of wine before eating any of the cheese.

I came home from work one day & found maggots crawling around in Orbits food dish,as I'd fed him one of Asda's own brand cat food pouches,I called the complaints line number on the back.
A few day's later I recieved an Asda gift card loaded with £10!!!0 -
