I didnt know where to write this but i was hoping for some opinions and advice regarding what to do with this complaint and what may be the outcome.
I have just opened a pistachio from an ASDA's own brand roasted and salted pistachios bag and found a very much dead and roasted maggot inside!
I have just written an email to ASDA's head office to bring it to their attention.
Any idea what will come of this? will they even care? anyone had a similar experience?
I feel sick at the thought that i have been eating these for the past couple of years, I certainly wont ever eat them again!

I would expect a refund and maybe a couple of quid compo but to be fair to Asda they can't be expected to check every single nut they sell. Presumably the maggot crawled in the nut of it's own free will and wasn't added by Asda so it's not really their fault it ended up there.
Anyway, think of the poor desperados who end up on 'I'm A Non-Entity, Get Me Out Of Here'. At least your maggot was cooked and not served up raw!The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

Surely there are quality control processes in place at the manufacturers though? if there is one in this one they could have a health and safety problem that might need bringing to light?
I would hope at the very least they would investigate the production line and make sure its up to food hygiene standards, wouldnt they?MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
All processed-food manufacturers already have hygiene and quality-control procedures in place. In order to prove your position I'd send the offending item back to them in the post together with your letter of complaint.
In real life we all should expect some foreign bodies in our food products: only a madman would expect every single nut to be examined closely.0 -
Have you taken it back to the store? They should give you a refund, and may send the packet back to the factory for investigation.0

What do you want them to do, open each shell to check? If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550 -
as has been mentioned, you can't realistically expect your food to be completely free of foreign bodies. food manufacturers & growers have massive procedures in place to ensure your food is as clear as possible of insects & anything else that's unsightly or that may be harmful to you.
i'd just take the packet back to asda, get a refund, maybe a smiley voucher and forgedaboudit. maybe buy a lotto ticket whilst you're there - if you're lucky enough to buy a packet of nuts with a worm in, you might share that luck in the lotto draw on wednesdayhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
I used to work in Sainsbury's and if it was something that happened at manufacturing then they would offer a gift card. However with natural products like nuts or fruit. There is no way of checking before hand whether it's processing or natural.
Remember one guy bringing an orange back with half a caterpillar in it. I don't wanna know where the other half went *puke*4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
