One bit of advice I was given by my mother which I have always listened to:
"When you get paid, you pay your debts first, then anything that is left over is yours to do with whatever you wish."
Ive followed this and I know exactly what bill needs to be paid on which day and how much needs paying. I only have one direct debit set up and that is for the Virgin media bill.
The rest I pay myself through online billpay or with gas/electric etc then I do that as needed since its prepay. I save well in advance to be able to afford my tv licence and I know which date this needs to be paid.
Its all about knowing when it needs paying, how much you need to pay and then making sure that amount is in the bank for that day! You cannot overspend since you NEED that money to pay that bill! Otherwise youre in the overdraft which will be charged, especially if you dont have one.
I agree with the other poster that says you seem immature. Im only 2 years older than you and Ive been married for nearly 4 years, rent our own place and run the house etc. Im the one taking care of the bills - because I choose to.
You seem like my sister in a way, who is a couple years younger than you and lives at home with our parents still. Just not one to be facing up to the likes of bills and debts and such like, naivety maybe. But one day you will need to snap out of it and take hold or you could be in big trouble.
I am absolutely shocked at those links! My goodness, I have one small makeup bag and a bag that has my hair stuff in which include a big hairdryer and straighteners and a few bottles of product. You could open your own shop with that lot!Weight loss November 09-January 10: [STRIKE]13lbs[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]20lbs[/STRIKE] 27lbs! :j0 -

Im sure theres a very 'valid' reason as to why she cant do that....Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
Oh gawd I feel the need to post again but this really is the last one. I've thought so for a while back but now, having read LPS's comments today I'm pretty certain - this is trolling, high post count or no high post count. She makes statements designed to provoke a reaction and to that reaction, only comments on the bits that will provoke more comments and more reaction! Then she ends with a heartfelt plea about being worried she won't have enough money:mad:.
I don't know that much about trolls but I did read somewhere that no matter what else you do or don't do - you should never feed them.DFW Nerd Club # 13640 -

If you smoke, where is this in your SOA? How much could you reduce your debt by if you gave this up?
Tell your mum to send back the Ugg boots she is getting you for your birthday and instead pay off £150+ off your debts. That would show really commitment to reducing your debt.Proud to be a MoneySaver!

This (again) is going to sound incredibly harsh, but people like her deserve to be in debt. She clearly has no self-control, no understanding of money other than spendspendspend, no concept of debt/credit and how it can affect her and others and no wish or will to understand. People don't automatically "deserve" all these nice toiletries and designer gear, you have to work hard to pay for them. Acting like an entitled brat isn't going to make the cost go away. As soon as she doesn't have dopes to take advantage of, she'll learn that the hard way.
Some people are far too nice for their own good, and graciously invested their knowledge and time in a time-waster and some even continue to do so! Clearly lovely people with more patience than I think I'll ever have
I think the thing that irks me is that there are people here who are genuinely working their bums off to help themselves, giving up luxuries, cutting costs at every corner, taking second jobs, etc, and the support given to these people is invaluable - the posts from the OP are simply jokes in comparison.
FYI, I'm a 22 year old female, so it's not a case of the "older generation not understanding".
Have to admit, they did give me a bit of a laugh, decent enough entertainment value at least! :rotfl:0 -
Jesus Mary and Joseph.
I'm absolutely flabberghasted. Why did you post an SOA, are you hoping one of us has a magic lamp we can lend you?
I hadn't come across this thread, I was actually pointed in its direction by a couple of other members as being so shocking. Thats how car crash your financial life is considered.
You're an adult, if you want to make excuses, thats fine, its not harming anyone here, the only person you are harming is you. Everyone on here is posting to try to help you, none of them will gain or loose anything if you follow the advice.
At 21 I had a similar amount of debt, at 22 I had finished uni, got a full time job (on £25k no less) and was in £16k of debt. Hoping it would go away clearly did nothing to make that happen, in fact by continuing my destructive spending patterns and ignoring the credit card envelopes it got a whole lot worse.
At 23 I met my now fiance, and he told me he would move to England from Ireland if I cleared the debt, and I cleared the whole lot in under 9 months, thats how much of a motivation he was for me. It took a big kick up the !!! for me to get around to caring about the APRs and so on, and thats when I found this site.
I am now 24, engaged, have over £10,000 in savings currently and saving over another £1000 per month, and while you don't care about getting married, we're having a huge no expense spared day because we can afford to and its a big celebration. Best of all though is we're going on a 3 1/2 week honeymoon, staying in 5* hotels in Dubai and a water villa in the Maldives. I could never have done this when I had all that debt hanging over me.
Oh and my fiance had over £12,000 in savings by the time he was 21, and a hons degree under his belt. Age is not a factor in maturity.
You might not want a wedding, or to move out, but dont you want to travel since you want to work in the industry? A months worth of spends on makeup and cosmetics would pay for a weeks holiday abroad. Save up for a few months and you could go somewhere really special.
Oh and over 100 eyeshadows? Get a grip, you only have two eyes. Use up what you have, a lot of makeup needs chucking after 6 months anyway, thats just money down the drain. I have 2 foundations, a highlighter, an eyeliner, a mascara, a powder, 5 eyeshadows, 2 lipsticks and a lip gloss. This is a perfectly suitable amount to create different looks, but I don't wear make up every day, it ages the skin, causes spots, and looks cheap imo.
At the end of the day only you can help yourself or not, and it is your choice, but face the consequences of that choice, and start hanging on to the receipts of anything your mum buys so the repo men can't take it.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
