Tramadol ... anyone use it ?

Options
Been prescribed it for severe back pain.

Have only used it twice, one day last week and tonight.

Last time I had a terrible migraine then was as sick as a dog. Put it down to "a bug", like you do.

Took another a few hours ago, the migraine's kicking in and I'm getting that sick feeling again, am about to heave up.

Is this usual ?

Forgive me if my reply isn't immediate, I feel a night in the bathroom coming on. The OH is here though so don't worry if I disappear lol.

Why would you want it banned? Just because you have side effects on it doesn't mean everyone does. I don't have any bad side effects to it, and it calms my pain down enough to allow me to get out bed.

Just to add - I couldn't take kapake at all, as it gave me horrible stomach pains and did nothing for my pain. But obviously it does work for you! Just goes to show there are lots of different reactions to various medications.

To the OP - I am on the highest dose of tramadol daily, and don't feel sick with it - but then everyone reacts differently. I do get really itchy and have a feeling the tramadol is causing it though!

    Cheers folks.

Can't believe one teensy weensy tablet can cause so much grief. Turned most of the lights out, now sitting here in a cool room with a bucket for company. Was previously on zapain/co-codomol but the doc changed it cos I was still getting pain on the maximum dose of zapain.

Think a bit of pain I'll have to suffer because this tramadol is immeasurably worse, unless it's a short term effect and one you get used to over time.

Just a heads up, not sure if talking about specific medication is actually allowed on the forums.

Tramadol is a great drug. However it also one of those drugs where you will either do well on it or not as you are finding out.

Best not to take anymore if you can manage without it and go back to your GP. He will be aware of the potential side effects you are having on this and may have on other drugs. He will find the right drug for you.

It has been my experience that particularly older people have problems with this drug. Nausea and confusion being the biggest problems, often better managed with regular paracetamol. It is an excellent drug and works well when used properly.

Kapake also a good drug for some people and not others ,again it has lots of potential side effects, take your GPs advice.

Have you had physiotherapy , used heat packs ?

Aww, some of the side effects to medication can be horrible. :( It's worth trying it for a few days if you can cope, because your body does get used to some stuff. Really hope you feel better soon.

  • Perhaps the OP has an allergy to Tramadol? I understood it to be a usually well tolerated pain killer. I take it regularly and have always found it to be effective and without side effects, but of course different people will react differently. It does not sound like you are reacting in a normal way so you should probably tell your prescribing doctor asap.

With regards to Kapake, a bit of caution might be advised - This drug contains codeine which can be quite addictive and may cause what is known as medication-overuse headaches.

Wierd but they all cause me problems in different ways, kapake make me itchy and restless, tramadol makes me woozy but only the fist day or two and tramadol makes my head sort of throb/buzzy feeling like you have been spinning around too fast .

I only now take anything as last resort when I really can't bear the pain any longer.
Good luck op I know what it's like trying to find a suitable one and can really get you down.
