  • No shovel, travel snowy/icy roads daily and have had no trouble whatsoever. Common sense and experience are more use.
  • I will not be carrying my shovel as it will weigh my car down and I need every power I can get

I pretty much dont get stuck on the ice these days.

Low revs, clutch control, full lock both ways until it grips...

and your away...slow first until momentum is gained..

Shovel, bag of salt (both unused so far) and all-season tyres. 2wd Fiat Panda. No worries.

Joiner of the smug group here

Shovels in both cars - along with high visibility vests, couple of blankets & a backpack (scarves/gloves/choccie bar - in case, & walking shoes)

All kept in back seat of car rather than boot.

Possibly overkill - but in my life I prepare for the worst & hope for the best - & the choccie never goes wrong....

don't forget, if you carry a shovel that you can then take advantage of the yellow grit bins that are dotted around - contrary to popular belief they are for public use!!

Blimey its been many years since I saw one of those bins... we just don't have them around here anymore..

  • Save on hard work, bin the shovel.

Fit suitable tyres for the time of year instead and drive around nonchalantly, you don't buy a dog and bark yourself.

We're in the Highlands of Scotland and although the main roads do get gritted our biggest problem are car parks which get ignored and the smaller single track roads which have passing places. Once you have to go in one of them, you're stuffed if you can't dig yourself out.
