If you've got a Shovel then use it !!!

:rotfl: I'd just like to say that with cars being stuck on the ice everywhere at the moment it's a good idea to keep a shovel in the boot of your car.

Not everyones got a garden and hence NO SHOVEL but for those who do then please remember the motto "A GARDEN SHOVEL'S FOR ICE, NOT JUST FOR SOIL".

Okay it's a crap motto I just made-up but it still true. We're lucky and have one in each car and are able help others out of tricky situations because of it. But as yet I've not met anyone who's got a shovel in their car... please someone join the Shovel Wielding fraturnity ... surely I'm not alone ?

Please if you've got a Shovel then use it !!! :rotfl:

It sounds like a good idea, although I suspect with many modern smaller cars you'll be lucky to get one in the boot ;)

I think we've got about 3 + a pick or two in the garage, but no room in the boot much of the time (wheelchair).
It may be time for us to invest in one of those military style folding shovels for the car.

A shovel isn't really much use with ice, only OK for moving deep snow.

:rotfl: I feel warmed and heartened by your response, we are on to a winner here.

Pray continue in feeling smug. :T

 Please have faith in the trusty Shovel; we've shovelled heap loads of ice away from car wheels to get them moving very effectively.

Also I've seen cars abandoned on slopes which completely blocked the road and people using plastic Dustpans to try to free their cars. So a proper garden shovel (or the super-duper Military style folding one) is a vast improvement.

You can also get small shovels and even ones that fold up, maybe not as good as a spade but better than nothing

I have a small shovel used for lumping coal and its fine, used it over day to put some grit on road

don't forget, if you carry a shovel that you can then take advantage of the yellow grit bins that are dotted around - contrary to popular belief they are for public use!!
