Fraudulent very.co.uk credit accounts

I too had my identify stollen using very.co.uk. I have never order anything from Very but I got a letter from them saying due to irregularities they had been unable to open an account for me. I phoned the number provided and they said that my identify had been stollen. They were very helpful and told me that someone had tried to open an account in my name, they had the correct year of my birth but the wrong date! Also they used my Sunday name and I have never, ever used this on any applications etc on line as I never use it so suspicious of how they got a hold of that.
I phoned the fraud line and they said they would flag up this on my credit report so that it wouldn't affect my rating. I said I didn't really care about the rating as long as no one could open an account in my name. She said it would be more difficult for me to get credit in the future, not so much that I would be rejected but I would have to go through more stringent questioning before getting credit. I said that suits me.0 -
You do realise the loophole is YOU giving your personal details or having them leaked as very/SDG won't fully open an account unless all the details are correct...0

I have a similar story. I moved from a property 7 months ago and now have a bill from very.co.uk for well over 800 which is accruing interest at nearly 40%!!!
I called them and they wanted to know my date of birth, new address and phone number. They told me to ring their anti fraud line (which is closed) after reading these posts I won't be going through them. Instead I have reported it to Action Fraud who work with the police and will be taking it to my local trading standards department.
In my opinion either very.co.uk are fools to be constantly duped by identity fraudsters or they are doing this themselves to see if we are silly enough to pay the bills!
Please, if this has happened to you, spread the word and don't let very.co.uk get away with it. Only when their reputation suffers will they bother doing anything meaningful to sort this out.0 -

You should still communicate with Very to clear up your credit file and remove the debt - the authorities won't do it for you.
The Police may or may not investigate the fraud and its not a Trading Standards issue. Fraud is covered predominantly by the Police.0
