I am not a people person, I could not bear the thought of living in a shared accommodation. Leeds looks better then derby.
When I was a student in leeds I lived in a house with 7 other ppl one year, 6 other ppl the next and 2 other ppl the year after that - you say you wouldn't want to live in shared accommodation but would be a good way to meet people (and their friends) in a new city and if you hated living at home that much then surely it would be better in a shared flat/house than at home?
In 4 years I never spent over £65 a week on rent in shared accommodation well under the £350-400 your thinking of spending...

To be honest it makes quite a lot of sense what your saying. It sounds like a good idea. Really good idea because if I am moving then I will not know many people. Where do you suggest good areas for shared accommodation.
I have chosen leeds because it sounds like a growing city with lots of potential, especially for a new graduate. I have thought about manchester and london, but the latter is too dirty.0 -
As per the previous posters, many landlords will not let their properties to benefit claimants as they are risky tenants. Those that do tend to have conditions, such as the tenant providing a guarantor.
A person under 25 (if that's your age bracket) will only get Local Housing Allowance for a single room rate (i.e. room in a shared house) and not for a self-contained property. There is an official LHA website that will give you an idea of the rate offered for various postcodes in Leeds and your eligibility.
If your rent is £400 per month, then you also have to consider council tax of £100, energy at £50, water at £20, telecoms/broadband/mobile at £30, TV licence £11, food at around £100-120, travel costs, contents insurance and so forth. All of which could be a struggle on JSA.

I've lived in many rental properties, some of which were shared, and the only one where they didn't want proof of my earnings was when I was a lodger with someone, so why don't you think about lodging? The price usually includes bills, so will help you budget.

Could you expand on that? Maybe its a challenge that you need to face? Humans are naturally social animals and it is essential for us to have a network of friends and acquaintances. Without it,we shrivel and die and do not maximise our potential. I too advocate that you house share for this reason.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Not really, I have done pretty well without any friends or family for over 5 years...
I just think I may be in need of personal space now and again, can you have this flat sharing? or is it considered rude? Is there an etiquette to be aware of.0 -

I hate living at home and want to move out.....
I want to live in leeds in a rented accommodation by myself, 1 bedroom apartment/studio rent about 350-400 per month. How much will I need to save, I have a degree but no job and live in derby. I also have a car, should I get rid of it (insurance is 70 per month)
It's very unlikely any landlord will accept you without a job especially as you have no previous references so prioritise getting a job, you'll have money and as a bonus be out of the house more!!
However to answer your question you will need the 1st months rent (£300-£400), 6 months rent (£450-£600) and agency & credit check fees (anywhere between £50-£200).* Save £s - Lose lbs *

But still living at home...
I guess you have needed your family support in one way at least...The only place where success comes before work is the dictionary…
