OS Daily Thread Saturday January 2nd

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for the first day of 2010! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Good morning everyone, thought I might as well bite the bullet and start the thread, as I'm off to work and wanted to say hi to you all, and wish you a good day. It won't be as nice a thread starter as Diva's or as funny as zippychick's, but I'm sure you will all add your own usual amusing musing on OS life!
Speaking of zippychick, I saw yesterday that someone else was missing her, well I stalked her in my usual fashion, and found her yesterday on another thread, so looks like she's alive and well. Come back and post on the daily, Laura!
Not much OS so far today. Hoping for a NSD as I'm at w*rk as I said, then I'll be meal planning for the month when I come home. OH and the boys will be having a stay at home day, playing PS3 no doubt! I have restarted the GC for this year, and plan on sticking to it very carefully, and am also planning on doing lots of OT to help out the family finances, so will need lots of OS packup ideas for work. I'll need to dig out Gingham's Veggie thread, I seem to have deleted all my favourites!!! Oh, and I've also joined the "NEW YEAR NEW START NEW US" lose 7lbs per month diet thread. This will be they year I lose all my baby, and chocolate, and cheese, and bread..........(you get the gist!) weight!
I hope everyone is well, special hugs for anyone who needs one, and have a great day!

Morning Jackie and all who follow.
Been up ages this morning as Hubbie must have switched alarm on out of habit last night and it went off at 4.50 which is our normal workday time Couldn't get back off then:mad:
Didn't know how to start thread so glad you did
Just caught up with last Dr Who - quite sad! New one is not such a fanciable one as David Tennant IMHO:rotfl:
Will be back later once we have decided what we are going to do today
Have a good day

Weight loss since January 2011 - 5st 5 lbs!!!!!0 -
Morning peeps
very cold here this morning and we had more snow in the night, only an inch or so but i`m willing to bet thats enough to cause chaos in a little while.
Our New year was good, we took Dad out to his local pub and he thoroughly enjoyed it, actually we all did even though we didn`t feel much like doing anything, we just wanted to hibernate.
Day off today so i`m hoping to catch up with a lot of house work that needs doing, DH is off to work shortly so i shall have the house to myself, so i shall feed the birds and walk the houndies and then get cracking, i also need to pop back and catch up with the last bit of yesterdays thread so i shall do that shortly.
Have a marvellous day everyone, keep warm and safe.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good Morning Jackie, Nic1lou2, Sunnyday and all to follow.
Early start here too. DS and family flying back from Germany this morning. Thanks to internet I "watched" their flight board, take off and now land! DH has left to collect them. They were a bit anxious last night as they were having heavy snow falls, but clearly this hasn't affected their travel plans.
Radiators all draped with jumpers currently! Food today will be largely party leftovers in one form or another!
Hope you all have a good day today. Take care.Resolution:

Good morning Jackie, NicLou & All who follow.
Up early this morning for once. DH came back from the care home in the early hours so I'll let him sleep for a while yet. I won't be there all day today as my Mum is coming down which I'm looking forward to. We always have a lovely natter & put the world to rights while we're at it
Lunch is beans on toast and tea will be spicy lentil soup & naan foloowed by apple crumble & custard.
Not many plans here as it's freezing. Max, the Beagle, hasn't been out for his morning wee yet he looked at me as though I was mad :rotfl: The Labrador has already had a run around the trampoline and chased the ice off it!
The WM is on it's 2nd load, TD on it's 1st. I also stripped all the beds on Thursday evening so want to get the last of that washed.
Have a good day all & keep warm :D
Diva Hope everything ok at your end?
Heavenleigh Hope you've had a nice Christmas & are ok too?

No much planned today Im off to the local town center (i think the farmers market might be on)
We need to stock up on a few things, mostley veg we use the last of our veg yesterday with the roast bacon joint.
Got no plans for lucn
Dinner will be somthing with what we have left over from the bacon joint.
Im hopeing to take the christmas decs down tomorrow, Im iching to get them down now and put them up the loft,
I also need to start thinking about what im going to grow in the garden this year (food wise)
I know its still early but i like to get it planed in my head and i also like to start getting the seeds from early febuary,
Some of the plants i start off on the window sill in litttle pots i start them off early that way i can have the veg a bit earluer than i should do but also by starting some early it means that i can fit two crops in off some veg:T:T
Anyway enought from me.
I hope taht you all have agreat day
enjoy:j:j

Morning All
Cooking for me today I think - have some cream eggs and gammon leftover to use up which will be Pasta Carbonara, Some pastry and Stewing stek defrosted to make pies and I still need to make the cheese & potato thing to use up the truckles (is that even a word?) of cheese thats left.
Twins tidied their room yesterday so they seem to have taken over the wm and td so i'll wait until they are done and then strip the little ones beds. DS1 wants new bedding a a new quilt so might see if I can pop out before he goes to work and get those.
DH and DS-S are going to watch the local footy team today - they get in free as we know the goalkeeper coach so they'll just want money for a burger while they are there:rolleyes: So I might do some baking with the girls or find us a nice film to watch - i'll see what they want to do. I have a recipe for lemon meringue cup cakes which looks lovely but i need lemon curd which i don't have in - might call to the shop and pick one of those up.
Made a lovely lentil soup which we had for dinner last night and used up the last of the bread rolls so we're slowly getting through the stores!
We moved offices just before christmas and I'm not cgoing to have a microwave when I go back...was thinking of getting a wide flask that I could take chilli or stew in.
I have a MS job tomorrow at a retail park so i might just get the flask/bedding in the matalan over there. Ok I'm rambling going to make a 'to do' list and then get some coffee into me.
Have a great day!

morning all,
very cold and thick frost here but still no snow , OH went out to the boot sale at some silly hour this morning and dd is still in bed, so its just me up, I have the wm going and have had tea and toast, so all well here
Yesterday dd and I 'did' her bedroom, now I gave it a really good going over about a month ago, and it gets done all the time in between, so where does all the mess come from, we dismaltled her wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet, and OH took them up the tip, she has new ones for the new house as hers were very old and tatty, I have also washed all the walls, skirtings and paintwork down in her room, upstairs landing and all down the stairs, OH did the bathroom, or not , I had to go in after him and do it properly, men just don't seem to clean properly . So poor dd is in her room with a bed, 2 huge bags of clothes, and a mirror, poor thing, good job its only another week
, going to get on and do my bedroom today. The lady who is buying this is popping round later on, to go through a few details, and we are completly upside down, but I suppose its to be expected
.
Dinner last night was cold meat, mash peas and pickle, it was delish, tonight dd is off for a sleepover, so i may get the smoked salmon out of the freezer, an easy meal for OH and I with some salad and bread and butter, and I will not have to cook a seperate meal for dd.
Today will be more packing and cleaning, the usual washing and dog walking
Sunnygirl, still thinking of you and yours xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all.
LameWolf Thank you for your reassurance about old doggies sight. She is coping very well, although she is 14 this year so it must be strange for her. We had a lovely walk yesterday (although I really had to push myself to do it as it was so cold), it just took so long as she had to keep stopping to smell all the different scents. I must admit she does get slightly spoilt (which Im sure she plays up to) as both our other dogs are under 3. Blimey - you can tell Im a dog person, can`t you!!!:rotfl:
Today is going to be spent catching up on the washing as I took on board what was said yesterday about washing so didnt do any:T
My walk today will be down to the village (without dog), a round trip of 2 1/2 miles, the only problem is that the bakery does the most yummy doughnuts!!! Will 2 1/2 miles be enough to walk the calories off?:rotfl:
((((Hugs )))) as usual to everybody who needs one0 -

Morning all:j
Didn't manage to get on yesterday to wish you all a Happy New Year, so have some belated wishes from me today:o
Welcome to all the newcomers - you'll really like it here.
Halight - glad to hear that the twins seem to be on the mend
Remmie - I'm with you on being a 'doggy' person. I have three springy-spangles. Our latest addition is the grandaughter of my eldest springer and she joined us just before Christmas. She's now about 4 months old - I won't bore you with the details of how she trashed the Christmas tree:rotfl:
redruby- hope the move is going ok
SunnyGirl - thinking of you and your family
nic - I expect the new doctor will grow on us, but I will certainly miss David Tennant.
Must catch up on the washing today. I thought I could see the bottom of the basket yesterday, then DD went and 'tidied' her room and a mountain of clothes have appeared in it. No wonder she never has anything to wear:rotfl:
Need to pop to the farm shop for some fresh vegetables. After the heavy food of Christmas I always crave something fresh and light at this time of the year - won't do the diet any harm either. I fancy some poached salmon and steamed carrots/courgettes with lemon rice tonight. It's certainly not on my menu plan so that's one resolution out of the window:T
Halight - I shall follow your progress with veg growing with great interest. I did say that, after moving to this cottage last November, one of the first things I would do was dig out the vegetable beds ready for planting in the Spring - but the weather had other ideas:D I had loads of growing space in the old house, lots of raised timber beds and fruit trees. All I have here at the moment is a sea of nettles. In true OS style I will make soup from the young spring leaves - if I haven't managed to clear the lot by then:o Roll on Spring - at least we have had the longest night and the days are slowly lengthening......:T
Have a peaceful weekend everyone.
Lilli
