I prefer it to Lakeland (and its the same distance as the nearest two lakeland shops). It's so old fashionedy feeling with everything hanging from the ceiling and from all those shelves, all those different egg cups and vinegar bottles, trivets, and the mini baking tins for doing sweets etc. With all the old fashioned kitchen stuff as well as new gadgets. I can't believe I used to find it boring when I was younger
Anyway, sorry OP for the somewhat off topic discussionI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

My OH did put stock in (veggie stock/court bouillon) prob added 1p each to recipe - so still got away with it
Thanks Lesley - great shopping - I will get round to doing some of your recipes but for kids who are vegetarians they don't like a lot of vegetables, so slow but sure
Mark, we were vegetarian for many years (not now, but do still eat a lot of veggie stuff). What kind of things do your veggie children like and I'll see if I can come up with something that uses those things0 -
When I was a student, I spent a couple of summers working in a crisp factory and there was a lass there who was vegetarian, but who hadn't exactly researched it properly. On my third summer there I plucked up enough courage ( I was more easily frightened in those days than I am now) to ask her what she ate. Baked beans on toast. That was pretty much it. For three years. Mind you, she looked pretty robust on it, I have to say...Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

When I was doing an OU course on Health & Disease, one of the assignments was to construct the cheapest possible diet that still included sufficient nutrition to be healthy.
In my version, porridge oats and beans on toast featured highly (there was no requirement for the diet to be pleasant, not saying those things are unpleasant - but every day?). The mixture of grain and legume in the beans on toast covers the bases for all the proteins. I can't remember much else about it now, I sometimes wonder how it would compare to Weezl's 50p challenge - I suspect Weezl would win by a mile0 -

Good going Mark, although i never eat liver or kidneys- that would be one thing that would never be in the budget.
I quite like pate though for some perverse reasonIllogical as Spock would say!
Like the new aviBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
hi Bob. - yes actually recycled it from another forum - I'm so MSE I even reuse things that are virtual in the first place. amusingly some other guy had rambo squirrel - and we had a bit of a gag wbout whose was [STRIKE]harder[/STRIKE] tougher
I know what you mean about kidney/liver - not my first choice usually - but once in a while - its cheap, earthy, filling and warmI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
