my post wasn't an intention to start an argument i was merely asking, sorry if you took it to be any other way.
Microsoft need taking down a peg or two in my opinion and hope this year sony have a drastic price cut on the PS3, once it drops below the £200 mark it will wipe the floor with the xbox in the sales. When you compare the machine specs the PS3 is by far the more powerful machine, the trouble is they released it too late and the 360 got a good footing on the market, as everyone who wants to play online wants to play with there friends, and a lot of people bought a 360 within the first year of its release

if everyone wants to play with their friends on 360 then wht will they be buying PS3's?
the xbox1 was far superior to the PS2 and yet.....?
i havent seen much on the PS3 to write home about in games that make it head and shoulders above the 360

and FYI i have both a phat PS3 and elite

The reason that the PS3 hasnt really come down in price is that Sony actually make a loss on every console sold.

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20091215232901_Sony_Still_Sells_PlayStation_3_at_a_Loss_Analysis.html

all games consoles are sold below the value in which they cost to produce, it takes a lot of sales to recoup the R & D and manufacturing costs let alone the advertising costs. ONce a few million consoles are sold they are then in profit as the actual manufacturing cost isnt that high.

with the xbox price drops its made it more affordable for everyone to own one, yes friends want to play with their friends so they stuck with the xbox 360, but the 360 games now are at there peak, most developers are saying they have got allthey can from the 360 compared with the ps3 where they have only just scratched the surface for what they can do in games. IF the PS3 drops below the £200 mark this year i think quite a few people will see how much of a good deal it is, games cost no more than the 360 yet you have no annual fee for online play and you get a bluray player to boot. As for the games there isn't many titles now that are solely one console only which was common practice when the ps1 and first xbox was out.
Im not saying that people are going to sell there xbox 360 in favour of the ps3 but if the price drops it will tempt people to buy and if sony can score some good releases this year i think they will do well

BTW i own a ps3, an elite and an arcade, now whilst i do love my ps3 i cant fault the online play with the 360 where as the ps3 online play really needs looking at, but i was reading that is in the pipework so who knows

Just as a quick note regarding memory, I only have the Arcade with 256mb memory and I have at leat 7 gamesaves on there and its still at 230 something mb, gamesaves take up hardly anything and who says you need to keep the gamesave forever?

I got the Arcade a few months ago from Game for £129.99 and that came with Lego Batman and Pure and also an extra wireless controller and it is more than sufficient for playing games, and to be honest i have no intention to ever play xbox live (although i would get banned as soon as i connected :rotfl:) I just dont see the point of it, surely if i want to play against someone i can just get OH or a friend to play against me.
well if your going to flash your console so you can play backup games and never intend on going online thats fine, but once you do log in you will get game updates which use space aswell.
Personally i prefer to put the game disk on the HDD and play it from there atleast i dont have to listen to the disk continuosly spinning whilst playing

Xbox 360 games are still improving graphics-wise, and they'll continue to do so for the life of the console. Cross-platform games still generally look and perform better on the Xbox 360 than on the PS3. They've been saying that the PS3 will overtake the Xbox 360 for years now, and it still hasn't happened. At the rate they're going, the PS3 will be better just in time for Microsoft to release the Xbox 720 (or whatever stupid name they dream up for it).

graphics on some games are improving, totally agree. But as the graphics improve it uses more space so something has to go, usually the size of the game or they will start moving content to 2 disks like forza 3, where they can add some of the extra content to the second disk. The limitations are just down to the DL disks where as the PS3 uses bluray so can hold a lot more data. It was all reported at E3 where designers were saying themselves that the game engines the are using are getting to the peak of design for the 360.

Who knows time will tell i guess:T

this is where the non HD equipped 360's could be an issue
they could have installed games on the hard drives like a PC so it would have been less of an issue over multiple discs
time will tell but in this round of consoles i doubt we will see many games that cant be done on 360 due to space

A DL DVD can store about 8 GB of data, which is quite a lot for a video game. I would expect in the future that it won't be much, but we're quite far from that point at the minute.

I remember the developers of the Uncharted series making a big hoopla about how the game wouldn't work on the Xbox 360, and a little further digging revealed that what they really meant was "we filled the Blu-ray disk up". Any idiot can fill a Blu-ray disk up, so it tells you precisely nothing. I'm sure the fact the developers are owned by Sony didn't factor into their willingness to denigrate the 360 at all. ;)

The uncharted series is a massive game so I suspect it does fill a blueray quite well, if it were to be brought to the the 360 they would probably have to edit a lot of the gameplay out to get it to fit.
Whilst we aren't at the point that the size of the game is a real issue, it will be in another 12-18 months, microsoft aren't talking about releasing another console for 2-3 years. But again who knows the games industry changes daily
