Switching BB from Virgin to Plusnet
wq0pco
I am in the process of going through with this switch (mainly due to Plusnet's offer on price and Virgin's poor customer service). I am out of contract with Virgin on 22/01/10 having given my 30 days notice.
I would be appreciate any feedback from forum members who have done this and indeed any feedback about Plusnet in general.
I believe I get Virgin through cable but Plusnet goes through tel line? My brother in law has mentioned some device which will be needed or installed near the phone line (which is at the bottom of the stairs - will this be expensive??)
If so, it may outweigh the benefits of switching in any case perhaps?
Sorry but I am a technophobe so no abbreviations, please use simple language if possible!!
Feel free to PM me if you like.
Genuine help, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Only virgin Internet is avalible with a virgin phoneline. You will have to move to bt also to change your Internet provider0

If you are on a cable service as you said, you CANNOT get ADSL (Plusnet/BT.O2 Ect) thru a cable (VM) phoneline. The systems used by VM are totally different.
You will need to get a BT (or similar) phoneline installed.
The device your brother in law was probably a microfilter & you need one connected to every active phonepoint,
HTH.

The OP is presumably on Virgin National not Virgin Media cable service, as they say the migration process has already started? Plusnet would not have accepted the order if there wasn't already a recognised BT number to migrate to.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for the replies so far, you can tell I don't know what I am talking about. Virgin Media sent a guy out to put a cable through the wall near the TV, our landline is with Talk Talk so will have to check who line rental is through.
Does the new device required, cost much/is much hassle to install?
If so, may try and go back to Virgin once contract ends on 22/01/10 to see what kind of deal they will offer a "new" customer.
Thought the Plusnet deal was too good to be true (i.e. hassle to switch over)0 -
If your landline is thru Talk Talk, they may only let you have their own broadband. In order to get Plusnet, you may need to change from T/Talk.
As to 'the device',it's supplied with the ADSL Router free & just plugs into the phoneline between the phone handset & the socket.0 -

Sorry, but how can you not know who you pay your line rental to? If you want sensible advice then you need to provide basic info for people to base their suggestions on.
It's not a hassle to switch to Plusnet, but you simply can't do it unless you have a BT landline (as opposed to a TT LLU line). No free lunch, and no free laptop

I would recommend Plusnet from a support perspective. You get quick replies from people who seem to know what they are talking about and talk native English. Two features not generally available from larger companies.0
