I'm much further East so seem likely to miss the weather hitting the area I grew up in (North of Bath and Bristol) and Wales; stay safe and warm.

It is a real eye opener how much the little spends add up - not got much left from my personal allowance of £75 this month - and it's only the 11th:eek:.
My car is doing a fifth less mpg in the cold weather - is this normal?

Thanks MRN - I feel a little better now, I only have about £20 of personal spends left for the month though:eek:. Good job my hair cut isn't booked until the 1st Feb!
(By the way the toilet roll was especially bargaincious as it is good quality - not the finger through on first wipe type:eek: Sorry TMI) Ch ch ch charmin! The name of the toilet roll!
I've managed to book three MSs tonight, no spend ones and two out of the three in places I would be anyway, hopefully I can pick up a few more in the area of the odd one out!

Deliberately ignoring the toiler humour... yes, economy is affected by the seasons. The air temperature is lower but is below an optimum for the inlet (so your car will be "preheating" it by using a valve to send incoming air over the engine - in summer it will take direct; remember the old days when you twisted the air inlet nozzle down over the exhaust manifold?). In addition, traffic conditions lead to more congestion and less optimum driving, and finally, when defrosting the car it is idling whilst burning fuel as you scrape it down.Tesco_points_addict wrote: »My car is doing a fifth less mpg in the cold weather - is this normal?

I can see variation in my economy on this same basis in my spreadsheets; very slightly tempted to try the "premium" grade again but it didn't make difference in the autumn.. (saw standard unleaded locally now £112.9 and close to work £115.9 - wow that is really worrying!)

Yes Stuart, thank you that is helpful, I thought I was going (even more) bonkers!
Managed a full day in work and a Mystery Shop, but had to cancel two other MSs and my extra shift due to the accumilation of snow...again:mad:
I am on leave tomorrow but I have a feeling we will be snowed in anyway.
Managed a no spend day today - at last!

I should have said - those lovely long socks I bought went down very well in work today! I showed them to everyone, most people thought I looked like I should be in panto! But I was warm!
