You are being done Dinah! £180 - 200 is an insane amount of money. I was more thinking of £50. Surely there is a mobile beautician who would do it for that price. I got one for my SIL for my sisters wedding and she charged her only €20 plus the temporary lashes. And this was in Dublin which is supposed to be expensive!

£150 is the cheapest I've seen anyone, and I REALLY hated the looks in her book. If it was only £20 or £30 I'd definately find it! I've gotten 5 peoples details now, it just seems that that is the going rate.

    Seriously - Near £200?!

I'm not really effected at all by the budget - bar them adding another 1k to the Tax allowance. And even that's not until next April. I've heard to lot of people droaning on (not you girls, I'm talking twitter!) about the VAT going up 2.5% but it was expected wasn't it? When Labour put it down to 15% they did warn us it would go up to 20% at some point. All I really took away from it was that George has a very nice voice.

Poddle - Don't talk about buying makeup! You wouldn't believe how badly I think I need a new lipstick. I went into town last week and was swatching loads - found the perfect one and just walked away *sniffs* Been thinking about it ever since.. how sad is that?!

My goodness a flurry of activity, it's been so quiet! I don't really understand the budget to be honest, they seem to be spending more in a lot of places, like the enterprise things and the extra tax free allowance? And they haven't increased tobacco and alcohol tax? Pay freezes are a bummer, hope OH's pay rise goes through before they freeze him!! The VAT is a funny one, remember when they reduced it and everything was only a couple of pence less, really it should only affect us by a couple of pence the other way? Bet it won't though.

I think there's a lot they haven't mentioned in it though. For example two nes school and a new hospital have been cancelled already in this vicinity alone, all the while they're bleating on about not cutting healthcare...

Loving the make up talk, I'm feeling particularly ugly I've had this enormous cold sore for over a week now and it shows no signs of wanting to drop off :( I look like I've been fighting!

ETA - Dinah have you tried getting quotes for just party make up rather than 'wedding' (kerching) make up?

Cinny, meant to say I got one of those Bourjois lip glosses on your advice a while ago and I love it! Not at the moment though obviously!

Wow that is crazy money. Maybe I should retrain to be a beautician. That is obviously where the money is to be made :)

I know a girl who does make up freelance for only about £50. I know I keep bleating on about Vie at Home but the reps are trained in make up application and a lot of them do make up on the side for a lot less than the 'professionals'. Really worth a look into!

Sorry about the cold sore Tete, it's awful when they get to that stage, I had one a few years ago and it actually scarred me it was so bad! I've got a little patch of pigment missing from my lip! I like to think it adds character... ;)

I reckon work is going to go mad at the end of the year, VAT difference is only pennies on small things but on a £2000 Range Cooker it's a big difference! Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of our customers start stocking up before the change!

I'm not entirely sure you need any training. The girl who was going to do my makeup certainly doesn't have any.

I've found that the salon where I get massages and things does a 45min application and advice session for £25 on Bare Minerals make up - I might go as it should be handy in telling me how to do the best make up I can - and I'll still have that knowledge afterwards.

Oooh just found a local woman who does trial + on the day for £60. Thats a lot cheaper than anyone else I've seen. But her damned website says 'click here to email' and then launches outlook - which doesn't work on my computer - so I have no idea what her email addy is - grr!

Eesh, I was thinking about £50-75!

Fingers crossed! Although like Dinah says, pay freezes are the norm in many places already, and not exclusively public sector either.

Well you don't need training but it helps if you get some sort of training so you can best advise on what products to use on what skin type and how best to apply it so it lasts etc.

I got my make up done at the Bare Minerals counter in Selfridges when I was in London, it was very nice make up and very interesting being shown how to contour with the different colours. They had a really good deal on the starter kit too as it was £45 for 3 different colour bases, a blusher and the brushes, should have been about £100 worth! I was good and resisted though!
