Morning everyone!
I hope everyone is well and had a cracking weekend. The weather was fantastic up here and I even went out for the day on Saturday with no jacket or cardigan or jumper!
What's everyone been up to?
Dinah, your dress is extremely impressive. It looks like a complicated style with all the detail etc. I would be soooo proud if I managed to make something like that. I have been trying to find a local sewing class/group but can't get anywhere so will have to google a bit more methinks.
Good news (or not!) I have been to the dr's today and said my back was well enough for me to go back to work so I return to work on Thursday. Let's just hope that the physio treatment on Wednesday doesn't make me regret that.
I have had an extremely busy weekend with a lot of room reshuffling due to the decorator saying he was starting at 8.30 this morning. He phoned me 5.30pm on Saturday!!! Luckily my back behaved itself but I was very careful not to do anything too strenuous and had many coffee breaks to rest myself.
So I am now going to do my first proper list of things to do before Thursday
Washing
Hand washing
All ironing
63 items for ebay
3 items for freecycle
order wallpaper
choose carpet for spare room
new business stuff
spring clean both computers
Plant seeds in trays
Plant taties in pots
Plant taties in allotment
Finish lampshade
MOVE 3 ROOMS BACK TO NORMAL
Check bank
Check cc
I will probably think of something else to add, no doubt
Oh, whilst I am here and before I start to google till I burst - I have a large mirror with an awful wrought iron frame (inherited item when we moved into our house) and wondered if its possible to remove the mirror from the frame and put into a more suitable frame. If it is, where can I get a nice cheap alternative frame from? Mirrors are so expensive and I a kind of begrudge freecycling this one if I can tart it up a bit.
Thanks in advanceDEBT FREE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2015 :beer::beer:0 -
Hi DE, good news about your back but Booo to going back to work and all the chores you have to get done before Thursday!
For the mirror have you thought about painting the frame a bright colour to modernise it a bit? I've seen them done to a nice effect but it's more this type of frame and I'm not sure what you mean by wrought iron...
When you say 'finish lampshade' - what does that mean, are you making one?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

That picture is just what I want! Only that kind of surround/frame is so expensive! It currently has a black wrought iron look similar to this picture (only its a plain mirror and no baby pictures!). The mirror on its own is about 30" x 24"and is dead heavy.
Oh my lampshade project!!! We have recently restored our front room and had the victorian fireplace reinstated and the floorboards all polished and I wanted a really old fashioned standard lamp to sit in the corner and found one in second hand shop for £10! So I stripped the old varnish off and painted the base a lush pewter finish and ripped the old fabric from the shade frame and made a template and started to replace the fabric with a more suitable one but cut two panels wrong so they didn't quite stretch enough onto the frame. So I am in the process of starting that bit again. I love making new things from old things! I have definitely turned into my mam!
If it wasn't for first reading MSE I wouldn't be as careful and concerned about everything being so disposable. I sell anything I can on ebay, I don't buy stock to sell on I just sell stuff that I have lying around and sometimes friends give me stuff to do with what I wish! It all either goes to ebay or freecycle.
So on that note, I must crack on! What you up to today Tete?DEBT FREE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2015 :beer::beer:0 -
Hi Dinah, i've lurked on your thread before, but since you've joined one of my usual haunts, the Sewing Thread, i figured it was time i said a propper hello. i'm totally in awe of your wedding planning and organisation and i'm sure i'm going to learn a lot from you
. Good Luck with Everything!
Sorry Dinah, can i steal the thread slightly?I like the idea of Glastonbury but I know that I'd hate it in reality, feeling dirty, sleeping in a tent, getting jostled by strangers... I'd have a breakdown!Hahahaha! A lot of people say that about sleeping in a tent, feeling dirty etc etc but I have been making the annual pilgrimage now for so many years we have a massive group head down and meet up there and bring all home comforts and essentials to make it as homely and clean as possible..... Its only 61 sleeps till I go - so I will have to save save save £'s and lose lose lose lbs!
Hi Dirtyepic, can i join you with a "woop! it's nearly Glastonbury!!!"i'm there everyyear with lots and lots of mates - we're crew the Theatre and Circus field. Home comforts are definatly the way to go - rum&hotchoc being on the top of my list! i'm also trying to loose weight, so might have to steal the idea of aiming to loose some for then too, if you dont mind?
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
Course you can hijack the thread and its lovely to meet you. I love it when one lurker comes out, it always seems to trigger a whole rash of them. (hmmm, maybe its not nice to call lurkers a rash?!)
Ordered some bits to try out different looks for centerpieces for the wedding today, very exciting.
Also went to the optician as the doctor thought I might have developed an allergy to my contact lenses, luckily I haven't, but what I am allergic to is (wait for it) air. Specifically everything in the air, such as pollutants, pollen and dust. To make it even better, I'm allergic to anti-histamines so I can't take those every day, so they're writting to my doctor to try to give me some preservative free eye drops, and also I need to start taking some sort of tablets every day basically spring to autumn to supress my allergic reactions and hopefully stop the itching.
Spending the rest of today rewritting my business plan. Or will be if I can work up the enthusiasm to move - I'm just a bit loopy on painkillers today.
Did I mention Tesco !!!!ed up? We sent them £1250 of vouchers, they sent us £720 back! Very handy! So NIM needs to call them when he gets in today and enquire about the location of the missing vouchers.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

It's a great time of year just now isnt it? The excitement and anticipation and getting bargains for your campsite! We have our new tent ordered and I am on the hunt now for Kopperberg cider in either cans or plastic bottles as I have just heard that Ikea don't sell the cans anymore! Horror!!! We have bacon sandwiches with stotties and bloody mary for breakfast! A fitting and substantial start to every Glastonbury Festival morning!
Do you get to see what you want when you are there? Do you have a shift system for the work or do you just all come to an amicable arrangement so everyone gets to see what they want to see?
Yeah, all of the lasses who are going this year have already started their annual Glastondiet! Would love to lose about a stone and have lost 2lb the first week but due to the bad back situation haven't had any chance to exercise so when that starts then hopefully the lbs will just drop off hahahahahaha.
Do you travel far? When do you leave to start the journey?
Well its only 57 sleeps for me now (Monday night is our last sleep as we head down the long and winding road from Jarrow to Worthy Farm sometime on Tuesday 22nd June!)

Hi everyone,
I am very impressed by the dress Dinah, you must be really proud.
Update on me/flat if anyone is interested. We have now painted our room and moved over 90% of stuff and even started building some furniture. Just need to finish cleaning the old flat and then we will be permanently moving over so very exciting!
Other news is I got called into a room and I am getting a payrise. Absolutely thrilled as the company still have a pay freeze on and are only giving them to those they think really deserve it. Isn't loads but is a bit extra a month which will really help. :j0 -

Hi Wendz
Great news on your payrise - it's good to hear that some people are actually now getting the recognition they deserve at work, nice to hear nice positive news on the work-front!
Hope your new flat is sorted dead soon. Just think of that lush feeling when everything is in the correct place and you can sit back and relax and look at your hard work and new room!DEBT FREE SINCE SEPTEMBER 2015 :beer::beer:0 -
Thanks guys!
Yeah I can't wait. We got a really nice massive picture of New York for the lounge from IKEa which we put up and that alone made me all excited!0
