I really want to go to Alnwick Gardens they look fab, the poison garden and everything! OH fancies staying on Holy Island for a night too but don't know if there's mush there in the way of accommodation? Ah we'll see, itchy feet itchy feet!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

I wouldn't bother staying on Holy Island, there's nothing to do! Whenever I've been there I've been panicking that the tide's going to come up and I'll get stranded there! My parents are from Newcastle and spent their childhood along the coast up there so we used to go up every couple of years on a reminiscing holiday (fun for me!) and I never rated Holy Island!
When OH and I went up 2 years ago we were going to stay in Seahouses and asked at the tourist information where was good to stay and what could we do on an evening and there wasn't anything to do! We got in the car and went straight to Alnwick... where we had a drink in a pub that didn't even have Archers in because it was too 'fancy'! It was so wierd we were in and out in about 10 minutes!
It is lovely up there though, I bought OH a ball and let him loose on the beach in Bamburgh and it was great, he ran around like a kid and we went for fish and chips and ice cream! I also love the bookshop in Alnwick train station, that's always the first stop!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I went to Holy Island years ago with my Mam and didn't like it but I thought maybe that was because I was a bored kid? And I really like Mead!
I've read about that bookshop on the No More Buying Books thread and it's my main reason for wanting to go, but OH doesn't know that
Definitely want to see more of the Northumberland coast though, Bamburgh looks gorgeous!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Even if you do end up using the £3k CC, at your savings rate it'll be paid off in a couple of months anyway. If you can't start married life debt free, at worst you could aim for starting 2011 DF?
Yes, I know exactly what you mean about not being able to picture things and then it being surreal!!
Mmmm, I'm getting holiday broody tooOH keeps talking about these cheap AI deals to Mexico and even says he'll pay (!) so we'll see if that ever materialises! Seriously looking at Italy in May for a few days but a proper sun holiday would be good too!
This made me laugh - I'm very in love with OH but still want to bop him on the nose when he wakes me up in the night wanting a glass of water
ETA - Birdie that would have to be Wedding Entrance of the Century if you pulled that off haha! We're hoping for a night or two in Alnwick/Alnmouth too this year - have you seen the Treehouse Restaurant?
Thats a good idea for trying to clear it by 2011 if we have to take on a small amount of debt.
Oooh mexico sounds great, another one on my 'want to visit' list but NIM isn't keen, I think this is mainly because he hates Mexican food!Tete_en_l'Air wrote: »I really want to go to Alnwick Gardens they look fab, the poison garden and everything! We went to Alnwick a year and a half ago, the treetop restaurant was lovely food wise and fairly reasonable prices but really busy and that was on a weekday, so I would suggest calling and reserving a table if you are wanting to go on a weekend or bank holiday. Its not actually within the gardens, so it seemed that a lot of business men went there at lunch. In fact generally I would say try to go on a weekday - there was a 3 hour wait to get in the Poisn Garden tour (you can't go in alone in case you decide to snack on the plants or steal them to knock off your ex wife or something!) so we didn't get to see itIt is lovely up there though, I bought OH a ball and let him loose on the beach in Bamburgh and it was great, he ran around like a kid and we went for fish and chips and ice cream! There is a great second hand bookshop in Seahouses too, although it seems to open when it pleases!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hmmm thanks for the tip Dinah, think we'll try to go up during the week! I didn't know about the bookshop in Seahouses! My main memory of Seahouses is the ginormous giftshop with about 4 entrances and I always get lost in there! I made OH hold on tight to my hand last time!
How can NIM hate Mexican food?! Nomnomnom... I love it!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Cor.... do you really want to marry such a wimp?!
My friend is like that, we went to Nandos once and she asked for the least spicy dressing on her burger and she couldn't eat it because it was too hot! So weird! Mind you, I grew up with my brother who used to carry around tiny bottles of Tabasco sauce to add to his food! He'd add crushed chillies to my Mum's already spicy chilli! The last time I went to Pizza Express with him he asked for a spicy pizza with extra extra chillies and he said it was just about hot enough... I dread to think what his insides are like!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary.
