    I am curious though as to the logistics of such a large scale operation. Whether all the relevant details are scrawled in a notebook sat on the desk next to you, or maybe you're more methodical- a spreadsheet file perhaps? :D

    There are currently around 90,000 houses a month selling in the UK.

    That is not as many as sold at peak, but it is more than enough to get a statistically significant sample size.

    The Land Registry shows an average of 55,000 house sales over a 3 month period (June-Sept 2009) acoording to their latest report for November:

    Land Registry does not include scotland, and NI. (I think it's NI anyway)

    HMRC, from memory it was 90K 2 months ago and 87K last month.

    LR only includes england and wales. HMRC is UK wide.
