Edinburgher's balancing act

Sweet! Just found out that my old mobile 'phone (which I had assumed was worthless) will get me £34 from one of the recycling sites :money: And there was me going to give it away....0

Yet more shopping today I'm afraid
Managed to pick up a very nice cotton jacket from H&M with 50% off (£14.99). It's slightly rumpled looking, olive green/brown and wouldn't look out of place on a member of Green Day
Feeling very sensible as I now own a jacket for each season for the first time ever!0 -
Off out for a cheap day out (trip to Nunhead's beautiful Victorian cemetery for a walk and to appreciate all the daffodils and the return of spring!)
Looking forward to my birthday, only two days to go!0 -
First debt free birthday in 9 years (since I was 18!)
I have been liberally showered with gifts, GF baked me an awesome coffee and walnut cake with buttercream icing and we went to the London Aquarium, which is fantastic after the refit.

Thanks to folk for the birthday wishes
Got my hair cut for Easter today, so looking a lot less shaggy than before. GF approves, although she misses the single auburn hair that was in my right sideburn
Although I've spent quite a bit over the last week or two, I'm feeling a lot better about it than I would have in the past. Most things were budgeted for (some treats, including a couple of Johnny Cash CDs and a copy of John Wyndham's 'Day of the Triffids') and I'm possibly starting to feel less guilty about spending my wages.
My savings accounts have almost been repaired after paying off my credit card (still have to repay £180 to my holiday fund) and then I'm free and clear.
Two immediate priorities now remain - engagement ring fund and emergency fund. Engagement ring fund will be the most important, although I'll not neglect to put something aside for a rainy day. After almost three and a half years I think my GF deserves some extra prioritisation.
We have discussed weddings and the like and are both happy to wait until we have a reasonable flat/house deposit (say £10k (Scottish prices)) before saving for our wedding. Still, would like to at least get that ring on her finger
Have some savings built up already (just a bit). Perhaps I should just whack them in the holiday pot and have done with it....0 -
Evening Ed how the devil are you two?

We's good thanks - and you? I developed a bit of a cold from Easter Sunday onwards, but I think it's shifting now
I'm sure a few links will be provided when it gets round to sparkle time. Still, need to find out about my new job first (effective pay rise if I get it as the rent in Glasgow is 50% of that in London) and whether or not I'm getting a bonus this year (find out next week).0
