Edinburgher's balancing act

Closed down my prepaid credit card today - think that as I've had a real credit card for six months now I should be ok?
Had to go to the chiropodist this morning, so limping just a little bit. Luckily it was £20 (as opposed to my last bill, for £29) and I managed to get a snappy new hairdo for my interview on Monday. Doing fairly well for spare cash this month, will need to save a good bit more next month! Stocks picking up again and Zopa has had a few extra tenners shoved into it as well.
Right - off to hang up some washing in the glorious sunshine!0 -
New hair do and newly-helped tootsies. Whatever next?
Best of luck on Monday if we don't cross each other before.
As for your job, can you not blatently go up to your boss as say 'I'm very bored. Can you give me something more to do?' with a glum look on your face? He might be able to rustle up something. (But wish I had the chance to be bored at work!)

Nope, because he's a lazy sod who is meant to be managing me. It's largely his fault I have nothing to do - employees should not (in my opinion) create their own work from the voidI have zero confidence in his ability to change the situation, most !!!!less boss I've ever had.

Maybe in a bit, but I don't like to 'jump ship' as I've only been in the current post for 4 months. Realistically, I think any less than 6 months in any role before moving on makes you look a bit shiftless (unless you have a very good reason). Have emailed occupational health (I forgot what they're really called) about stress and will ask them if there's anything they can suggest as regards finding more to do/manager management
Had my interview for the part-time job I mentioned today. It went ok, although I probably waffled a bit as I'm out of practiceStill, I felt quite confident and think that I managed to come across as friendly and competent, so it could've gone worse. Unbeknown to me, it's a temporary post (finishes next May), but would still work out as £1400 or so after deductions by then.
Home now to enjoy the rest of a day off before returning to work tomorrow for a short week and then HOLIDAY!0 -

Ed, you are evil! :rotfl: I never would have thought of that: I would have just gone up to him and had it out with him.edinburgher wrote: »Had my interview for the part-time job I mentioned today. Go Ed! :T I think it's really good for you cos, as you say yourself, you're a little out of practice. And the fact that it's temp could work out better for you as if you find yourself overworked, then you don't have to have an internal battle with yourself about the money at a later date. And the nice thing is that if you don't get it, it's not big shakes, but if you do, wayhay! Even better! Please call me 'Pickle'

No, I'm sorry, but kick is straight back out again: there are certain times in your life when you simply and absolutley HAVE to spend money and NOT feel guilty about it: your wedding and honeymoon are one of those times. (OK, so perhaps not hire Holyrood for the reception or anything, but in general YKWIM!)

Thanks Pickle
We've not hired Holyrood for the venue (Greek beach was our choice) and hopefully we won't have to pay for much of the wedding costs. Still, I find myself balking at significant one-time costs - even when it's something this important! Which is odd, as I seem to have no such problems spending money on lots of small individual purchases
This is somewhat compounded by the fact that we're looking to get our own place again soon, as life with the in-laws is becoming a bit too claustrophobic. Would be nice to have our own place again for Christmas.
I am trying to be fairly well behaved re. paying off the honeymoon costs. For example, we've already paid for the flights (credit card, will be paid off today) and have £600/£1600 of the hotel cost sitting in the bank. Now all we need to worry about is pt. 2 of the honeymoon and the spending money0
