Well, you're Scottish for a start so no, but for all I know you might well be short and ginger. The Ed in my head doesn't have sideburns, but if I remember correctly, you do! :D

Vy ees eet so hot? I am melteeeng! :(

Feeling quite practical today as I called the British Heart Foundation to collect the bulk of our furniture next week. There's a wooden bed frame and a nackered suitcase that we can't give them, so have arranged for the council to collect these at a later date.

Should probably make a start on packing today, but the weather so isn't right for it!

Picked up some Stardrops while I was out - had previously thought that we had to have the flat professionally cleaned before leaving, which isn't the case. So Stardrops and elbow grease will be applied in liberal amounts to try and preserve as much of our precious deposit as possible! Should probably start off by cleaning up the kitchen chairs before they're collected, as they're looking just a little bit grubby.

We're off for a picnic tomorrow morning/afternoon and a huge box of delicious goodies arrived from the Forman and Field website. This (together with my computer cleaning and upgrading) has left my credit card a bit stretched looking, so I'll probably need to use some savings and clear that asap.

It all sounds good - have a lovely weekend. You can make up for the hard work with the treats. :) And as for the melting, you should try my work: they have no air con off the shop floor which means that the back areas (in which we spend approximately 50% of our time) are outrageously hot. I swear it must have been illegal last summer in the worst parts of it as the storerooms must have topped 100 degrees easily. I would love to take a themometer and see how hot it is and what's the maximum temperature it will hit.

Enjoy your picnic and don't forget the sunscreen! ;)

Ah - what will probably be my last post from London ever!

We're 75% packed and ready to go. The British Heart Foundation took away most of our furniture last Friday, the council are collecting our bed frame this Friday (cue slumber party in the sitting room!) and I'm currently perched on a box in the kitchen as I wait for the carpet cleaner to finish up :)

Pleased that we're going 'home' (I'm not one of those people who feels particularly loyal to any one locale) and that life should be good now that we'll be staying somewhere affordable on my now much improved salary. So, I feel that we've reached the end of a long journey that started 3 years ago when I decided to retrain and get a 'real' job.

At the same time, I think I'll always be quite nostalgic for London, as we've been very happy here. When I was a lad, coming to London used to be pretty much a universal rite of passage, something that seems to have fallen by the wayside in the decade since. I'd like to think that it's because people around the country are generally happier with their lot, but if I'm honest it seems like young folk are a lot less adventurous now. Maybe they're all used to living it up courtesy of the kindess of their parents? :rotfl:

I feel that our stay has been entirely successful. I've gained work experience, job stability, an even stronger relationship with my GF and I've even managed to get rid of my debts to boot.

Maybe a new diary is called for? I seem to be a bit bereft of challenges at the moment!

The move was relatively stressful, but we survived.

I definitely regret the decision to ship stuff with ParcelForce - in my opinion, they're the worst courier firm I've ever had the misfortune to have dealings with  Anyway, we got our parcels eventually, so all's well that ends well? Still, it's enough to make me return to Dooyoo I am so annoyed by our shoddy treatment!

We're now back with the GF's parents and it's a little weird. It feels like we're on holiday/are guests, as opposed to being part of the household. I suppose I shouldn't complain - we are being made very welcome. We intend to pay our way just as soon as we are able, but I'm fiercely independent and it feels like taking the p*ss just a bit :( Looking at it from another perspective, they've got less than a year to run on their mortgage and definitely aren't skint, so maybe I should just try to go with the flow a bit?

Moving was expensive and I'm feeling very skint. On the positive side, I've managed to protect my fledgling emergency fund, my GF has kept all her savings and she's got a job interview next week :T
