There has to be a middle way!

There is - but the middle way is the hardest way. Extremes are so much easier.

  • can only echo everyone else, fresian - keep posting and we love you! we're all here for your good days and bad ones. :A

i've been in a real slump, too (like lots of people living a british winter, i expect!) but sometimes what helps me is just to accept that i'm in a dreadful mood and not get too cross with myself for not being able to just perk right up. because as you know, the dark clouds *do* pass. so enjoy that makeup and grit your teeth about the lodger, she'll be gone by christmas and your twenty ten celebrations (one of my friends names for her 30th!). :D

you expect a lot from yourself - just be kind to yourself, too, as you are doing great! xx ttb :p

February has been a really carp month all round what with £500 in unexpected car repairs and the OHs £250 dental bill my budget was shot to pieces and that was before he arrived home yesterday clutching a £55 silencer and an adapter to make his rifle a bit quieter. I couldn't hear any difference at all but not content with that hes then announced hes bought a laser sight to help me aim the pistol. Hes had it two months and I've never shot the thing so I'm clueles how his mind works. Perhpas he thinks he disappears to work and I spend all day shooting tin cans at the bottom of the garden... although from the evidence down there I do believe this is perhaps how hes spending his free time at the mo.

On a far more positive note there are ten months of the year remaining in which to claw back this months overspends. You are sub 4K *whoop whoop* and you won't be needing make up for quite some time. The middle way would have been to buy some cheaper make up that wasn't quite the right colour, didn't go on particulalry well or stay on particulalry well and so would have been relegated (partially used) to the back of a drawer and replaced with the stuff you like eventually any way. Buying the right thing the first time round was the MSE way to go and if you get 9 months out of it then technically its cost you the same as a two Starbucks a month habit would. Don't beat yourself up about it but feel free to come over and beat my OH up instead. I've a feeling that would be far more therapeutic (for me anyway).

Lol - I bet if you bought it they will never use it... when I lived at home I bought a lovely little bed for my cat - the stupid thing sat on it ONCE (when forced to) and then promptly went back to the scabby cardboard box thing it had been sleeping in. Grr.

I agree though - don't get disheartened. I had a bit of a bad month in Feb what with forking out for trips, I've also bought a few clothes this month too, but at least now I have something to look forward to, and at least I can look nice while I'm sitting at home not doing anything because I can't afford it!!!

    xx
Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o

I think it's just February to be honest. January is the month that people go "Right, I'm going to change this and this and this". I did really well in January but am having trouble keeping it going. I think that February is the reality month when we all go "B*gger, did I really think I could do that?!"

If you're doing a diary let me know where!

The annoying thing is that the blusher stuff will last for 6-9 months and the eyeshadow for longer still, but I'm continuing to beat myself up about it. There has to be a middle way!

Look, if you beat yourself up *much* harder you'll need the d*mn makeup to cover the bruises....:rotfl:

As has already been said - think of how much costs per use not how much it cost to buy. If you'd (as mentioned) bought something cheap you'd have used a few times then chucked it in a drawer - very expensive per use.

Spring is coming (I think...maybe...) we'll all be a bit more cheerful soon :D
