Whats the travelling like between the new job and where you are, would a train/bus pass be suitable? Although you already have a bus pass don't you, I guess you've thought of that.

I'm going to make flapjacks this afternoon, was the recipe you used the other week just a basic flapjack one (e.g. butter, syrup, oats) or was there some amazing secret ingredient that I shouldn't be missing out on?!

    xx
Travel - would be Edinburgh to Dunfermline which isn't far but isn't covered by my bus pass! I think I would have to get a bus into town (20 minutes) then out to Fife by bus/train which isn't the easiest!

    Flapjack recipe copy&pasted below:

    Flapjack recipe as requested....
    6oz margarine
    6oz demerara sugar
    2 tbsp golden syrup
    8oz rolled or porridge oats

    Shallow 18 x 27 cm tin

    160 degrees

Melt marg sugar & syrup in large pan, do not allow mixture to boil
Take off heat, add oats & stir so well covered
Spoon into tin & put in oven 20-25 minutes until oats are golden brown

Take tin out of oven & after 10 minutes cut into pieces, leave in tin until cold

    Enjoy!

Hi F_F, you seem to post about bargainous findings in Morrisons quite often. Can I ask if there are any tricks to this? I have just been round Morrisons, got there just after 3pm thinking they would start reducing things, but I didn't really manage to find owt of note **want that shruggy shoulder smiley here:o**

I got the 30p onions and 30p carrots but thats it really. I was hoping for some cheapo meat or fish type gubbins ideally!

Also I kept getting a bit excited seeing yellow stickers on items but then realised *everything* has yellow stickers on lol :rotfl:
  • Ohhh FF - there's no such thing as a cheap car!! *Floozie - bad experiences with a Ford Mondeo and a Citroen Saxo*
Our last car (Now thankfully departed) only died when I was driving. The sodding exhaust came off twice while I was driving - on one occasion a woman handed it to me when I got out of the car as it had fallen off as I entered the carpark :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I do miss it sometimes though when I'm hassling my car-driving friends to take me to Tesco!

The fact I would need a car is the only thing making me wonder about this possible job....

Cars are definately not cheap, my little Peugeot has started costing me a small fortune in the last year or 2 :( - In saying that I bought a new car today!! :D A 2010 plate Hyundai i10, thankfully it was the car I have had my eye on since last year but managed to get the model up from what I was after due to the 7-10 year scrappage scheme they have started. It was the only car other than a 2nd hand car I could afford to buy outright.
Very proud of myself as well as I am paying it all in cash :eek:

I hope you get an interview for the job F_F :)

It might depend on your particular store, but here's how I do it in mine...!

    Cheap things

I check the website for the special offers before I go
There is always some kind of 30p veg

    Reduced things

In my shop, there are many places to check....

Bread - either beside the bakery or at the front door (Later in the day)
Fresh pizza section normally has reduced items
Fish cabinet (fresh) has reduced items in it
Deli section - normally has reduced cheeses/quiche/olive-type things
Chiller cabinet - my shop has two opposite each other, one has fresh meat reduced the other has chilled things which can include sausage rolls/pies, quiche, yoghurt, milk, cheese, ready meals, desserts....anything really!
    Vegetable section

I tend to find that they reduce things in the afternoon but not enough! I normally go in after work (so about half five) and can normally get bread for under 50p and items from the chiller for under 20p.

Hope that's of use. It's certainly made me realise that I spend far too much time in Morrisons!! Best advice - take your time and scout your local store to see where the "hotspots" are for reductions. Mine is a massive store in a shopping centre though so maybe that's why it's good pickings :D

I really like Morrisons, even though it's at the other side of town from me. Apart from the prices, they have a really good selection.

The thing that bugs me about ours, is that the aisles are too narrow, so only 2 trollies can fit. If a third tries to overtake, there's hell on!

No word of a lie, an old man once called me a T*@T because I tried to overtake! :rotfl:

According to a thread on here, these are the next lot of Super Veg at Aldi this week...

    Punnet Kiwi fruit 39p
    Bagged pears 59p
    Leeks 39p
Carrots( the sweet ones ) 39p

Morrisons tomorrow for essentials, movies on Tuesday so I am going to plan to go on Wednesday.
