Thanks for all the help everyone. I can understand now that 5,823.00MB is just under 6MB but when I look on my desktop in the Add or Remove Programme window and see that the other programmes running are stated as having 1.2MB, 20.4MB, 14MB etc etc. This one (Realtek AC'97) is the only one with a comma in it and with 4 figures which appears abnormal compared to the others which do not have this. Am I right to think that there is a problem?

I did contact Acer by email (found the email address on the Acer helpline website) but they can't help me because I did not buy the desktop in Canada or America!!!! (I bought it in the UK).

    Any advice is greatly received.

its just under 6gb, not 6mb.

    a quick guide: 1024kb = 1mb (megabyte), 1.024mb = 1gb (gigabyte), 1,024gb = 1tb (terabyte).

Regardless of the size of the file ~ removing it is highly unlikely to make any difference to the speed of the computer

I would highly recommend following the advice in post #4

If the program is showing as using 5,823 K in task manager then i'd say everything is ok.
Where do you get the figure 5,823.00 MB from???????

    Is this a media player?

If so, it could well have archived all your audio files and included them in the size of the program.
  • Hi
I found it in the Add or Remove Programs in my Control Panel.
  • Hi
I've just tried to remove the Realtek AC'97 Audio Programme but it won't let me do it. When I press the remove button, it says ..

"Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

    Any advice please...

Post your HiJackthis file so we can see what's happening.

    http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

This may yet be something to be suspicious about so be careful what you're removing for the moment.
  • Thanks. Here it is...

Thats not the list we're after

Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

  • I think this is the right one....
