Same thing happening here, but from my bathroom sink, I think it must be frozen outside because when I tried using the plunger to get rid of clear water some horrible grey stuff with bits of ?twigs appeared through the overflow  Just going back to see what suggestions people have made, as I can't really afford a plumber either.

Lingo I have unblocked two sinks today, I'm not a plumber but a cleaner. The handbasin sounded like yours. Not saying it will work, but first of all I plunged it a few times, no luck. Then I took out the water and glugged some bleach down it.
Put a bit of cold in it and then some hot. Plunge plunge, no luck.

Removed water again. Repeated with the bleach. Added water, plunge plunge.
Removed water again with a cup into a bucket. Then filled with a bit of cold and boiling water from kettle (I remembered something about cracked pipes etc, so made sure there was cold). Still no success.

I then gave up and had a cup of tea, whereupon I heard a gurgle and a spleeeurgle and ploink ploink ploink and hey presto.................cleared sink.

The kitchen one was easier and just needed a plunge.

Just to let you know it can be done with determination not to call a plumber!!

  • Evening all........ no, I am not a police officer. NSD here today, yippee, although absolutely gagging for a glass of wine as hard day slaving over Pc and phone - working from home. HM crumble using plum and apple mix from my Monday whoopsies. Smug all over again.

Thats over near Maybo then Grandma, so could be Huttoft, Burgh le Marsh or another I don't remember the names of.

Yes we were in mablethorpe in October which was what got us thinking along those lines. We have been to the area each year for 10 years now.

I have just been asked to make a wedding cake and do some alterations on brides and bridesmaid dresses for a woman I have known since she was born. She said she would pay me but maybe I will do it instead of spending money on a gift she doesnt need anyway.

Partly because of insulation - don't you need really thick walls to keep it fully warm? That could be awkward in terms of size and light... Also for funding, as if we still need a mortgage at that point it might be more difficult on a non standard build... but I could be wrong, and as I've not been in one it might be totally different when we are at the point of looking at it properly!

I'm far from an expert on these things (yet ;)) but I know someone who built a cob room and their walls weren't insanely thick and it was very light, lovely actually :smileyhea For funding, the Ecological Building Society is the answer :D

I have always kept a diary to record just about everything more of a journal really. looking back at this time last year I had absoutely no money, no heating was on EC for electricty and was surviving on porridge and bread, I'd sold just about everything worth anything inc TV and wedding ring . How different this year has started, my income is the same but my freezer/pantry is full. I've replaced the TV sadly the wedding ring will never be replaced, my rents up to date, CT paid till April. All this has happened from lurking on this challenge last year so heartfelt thanks to everyone on the 2009 challenge:A
:T I'm so glad the thread has helped. Hope you get the f&f and can pay your first debt :T
Back later with frugal update once he's been battered round the head with an icicle :A

CW, keep meaning to say, really pleased about the yorkie x

Thanks for sharing your story Rozee, interesting. Sounds like you're much happier now.

I was meant to see BB today but needed to be with my OH (visiting his grandad's body today). It's quite a tough time here at the mo, and on top of all the sadness, we're both really struggling with being back in the UK. It's so strange to think that this is our true reality and that this consumerist society is where we live - that's why coming here is such a breath of fresh air and keeps me sane, reminding me there are like-minded people out there. PHEW! :D
Can't wait to see my family too, really hope the trains are running on Tuesday. I miss my dog especially, and want to see my nephew too, as well as everyone else of course.

Going on about dreams for the future, I'll share mine. All I want is to live with my BF in a nice house, with some land. I want to be able to teach and enjoy my job, but also enjoy life in general.

The ultimate aim is just to be happy.

As for dreams, i will hold my hand up as one of the seeming few who does not dream of a small holding in the country.
Well, you have company here :)
of course my romantic side does, but my realistic side knows I woudn't last five minutes

I wouldn't last on a small-holding, but wouldn't mind taking on a proven small business in a more remote location (one where everyone knows everyone, and everyone looks out for everyone else)
and I love where I live right now very close to the centre of town. So from that point of view already living my dream in a way I guess. Took the plunge and all the risks 10 yrs ago to get here and make a new life.
Again, you have company here - though we only made the move in Septmember 2001, so just over 8 years ago. Was quite a wrench moving 'so far' from my parents (had never lived more than 10 miles from them, and for 10 years before the latest move we were only 3 streets apart - it's now over 40, so while not enough to stop visits it does stop 'popping round for a cuppa').
