I was on a night shift last night and my colleague parked her car in what we now realise was a clamping zone. we've parked there loads of times and never had a problem so we're guessing the clamping thing is something new... unfortunately it was dark at 2am so we didnt see the sign.
anyway, we were at this particular project where we work between 2am and 4am and during that time her car was clamped.
she had a ticket on the car saying she had to pay £150 to release it, but when she called them they changed it to £250, saying they had to tow it away.
can they really do this?
she didnt have £250 in her bank so she's had to let them take it away and they wouldnt let her know where it has gone and she was literally stranded at 5am... it was a nightmare.
so... does anyone know how she can get her money back or get them to agree to taking the original £150? they now want an extra £25 per day on top.
The man on the phone hung up on her and now she doesnt know what to do.
arhghghg!
Yes they can, they have to be licenced though.
Do not park on other peoples property with out their permission then you will not be clamped.
Simple really. If someone parked on my property without permission I do the same. It is no different to theft as I cannot use it when someone else parks there.0 -

And if you did you could end up being arrested for criminal damage.
Why do people think it is OK to park illegally and then get upset when they get clamped?0 -

So is parking on my property without permission because I can't use it when someone is parked on it and it costs me lots more money then the clamping fee. I have to look for a carparking space and walk back to my office. It adds an hour to my day on top of the £20 carpark charge that is why I like clamping. It stops people from costing me money.0 -
although this doesn't help the OP directly, this is what a friend did when he was clamped with a demand for £100 or tow-away:
made a note of padlock size/type
caught bus to town
bought identical padlock and tungsten hacksaw
caught bus back
removed padlock
presented thugs with clamp/new padlock and keys
police called on grounds of criminal damage
police arrived, giggled and went away
job done.
but beware. many clampers are right at the bottom of the food chain and unsuited to meaningful employment so they might gain pleasure from trashing your motor.miladdo0 -
Recently we have NEW notices up at our local retail park after a re-fit which is also next to the beach and a green field...if you are caught leaving the car park complex (without your vehicle....for those almost quicker than me, lol) you will be clamped and we saw around 10 clamped the other week when there was a boot fair on the opposite green. Later that Day we went to the small car park a mintue away(also owned by the same co. as the retail car park and the only place you can park for the beach here) and at around 4.00pm 8 vehicles had been clamped with the clampers still there(a few words where exchanged...unrepeatable in the heat of the moment you can understand)...There is a notice and if you study it carefully in very small writing compared to the rest of the writting on it... it says maximum of 3 hours or you will be clamped...Lots of people will have missed this and take the family down the beach for a good part of the day without realising this. I would have thought that our local council would have stepped in on this new notice because it is the only place to park for this beach...No fees are needed to park here but they sure earn a lot of money from there land...one way or another...there is a good cafe on this beach as well and some good walks...but so restricted by the car park rules0

Rip off the motorist yet again.Perhaps someone should tell the council to get the company to erect a sign thats easily read.0

i was towed about two months ago. i agreed with towed as i had not bought my car tax but when i went to pick my car up i noticed there was damage done to the bonet and also to my wheel arch. i contacted who took the car away and was told i would have to wait till they looked further into this.
i waited and waited and finally got a reply saying as i have not been in contact my case was dropped and i should of sent in a quotation and i would of had the repairs done but as i left it while waiting for a reply there was nothing they can do.
my advice to people in my situation is get a quotation and then contact the relevant place again.0
