Who, Terry Fator or Gordon Ramsey? Both over rated IMHO.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Gordon id guess- he has a made losses on loads of businesses.

Im sure Gordon has plenty of assests and this will be a big money spinner for him.

looks like the plan is for the place to open by 1st June.

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/dec/06/star-chef-gordon-ramsay-open-restaurant-strip/

I would guess it will be veeery hard to get a table the first few nights though.

I was just glad to find confirmation of what space the restaurant was going into - had a fear it would replace MAG!

Stuie, have you checked the rate booking direct at the GN, £98 is decent and don't forget no resort fee, there is a charge for wifi in the room but if you sit in the 24hr Starbucks it's free.

Also if you do gamble do most of it there using their players card and go and see the casino host in the office to see what 'he can do for you' before you check out. The only thing is that the poker room is not included in the comps as they have their own promos.

I stayed for 5 nights but only got one night comped as I played poker most of the time, but still had enough play on the machines to get that one night free. A friend who was with me played blackjack most of the time and had 4 of his 5 nights comped.

The pool area is the best downtown mind you there was a keep fit convention there, I came away with a sore neck, bar and BJ poolside. also if Starbucks is your thing the waitresses will fetch you your choice from there as opposed to 'comp' house coffee, you would need to pay for the coffee and a bigger tip is usual.

The players card is the first thing you should get once you've checked in. At the GN you pull on a slot machine and can win upto a $1,000 dollars free play, me I got a paltry $75 which I turned a profit on, you get to play it on a lot of the machines across the floor, winnings are real cash.

The Trop has just had a refurb and whilst not flash it is decent in a decent location opposite the MGM, New York, Excalibur and Luxor. The trop has a number of booking promos on and it is worthwhile having a look at the website and give them a call, 3 for 2 on nights, book 21 days in advance get upgrades 1/2 price, book early get 15% off rack rate.

Register for the players card and when you activate it at the casino you will be covered for upto $200 of losses on the first night, bound to be some T's and C's attached but the players desk will explain.

Don't forget you need a card for each person so the chance of double bubble on promos.

You'd be surprised what offers come through.

The only problem with booking through Expedia etc is that the room is prepaid so casino hosts can't do anything on room rates but you can still get room charges comped.

Check out the hotels direct doesn't cost anything to try your dates in their reservation system, sign up for your players card first keep the number and try it on the reservation, who knows it might give something? Don't forget to add the 12% room tax.

A quick check on the Trop for your dates shows at $59.99 a night +tax so your deal against that looks good, don't know on specials.

But if he books with a 3rd party, the host will not be able to do anything on the room comp side of things...food, etc. possibly, but not the room...I know you know this, but just making sure that he understand it's not an option if booked through a 3rd party.

No one should ever play for comps, but if you are going to play anyway, if the cost of booking direct is similar to the cost of booking through a 3rd party, it may be really silly to go the 3rd party route...although that way at least you know what your total cost will be, and pay up front.

Also, winning $75 on a free pull promotion is pretty good I think. :)

As for whether the deals are good - it's too early for the best deals to be out for the summer months...so hard to compare apples with apples at the moment.

The only advantage of booking now with Expedia etc is that you know what you paid, no fluctuations with forex etc, a bit of a gamble on whether it improves or drops but at least you know where you are and plenty time to save up cash for essentials.

For a first trip it may be the way to go for confidence, you also have the option of using Nectar points on Expedia which may be a cheaper way of doing it.

As Ferf says you won't get any comps on the room through a 3rd party, but you can spend them as you say on other things.

“I think you will see Caesars slowly taking away the French overtones of the Paris with these moves,” I was reliably told. “Obviously, with the Tour Eiffel right there in the casino, you can’t ignore the French theme. But ‘les directions’ will become the directions in every way, and the staff will slowly phase out the French-language greetings.”
Bit like the Eurovision Song Contest, where its now only les Francais who insist on doing points in French.

Getting married in Vegas in April, managed to get my flights sorted this week....

Flying direct to LAX with United, then took advantage of Southwest's 'Get Away' rates and paid $19 each way for me and my fiance! So all in all the flights were just over £500!
