September(to keep this Vegas-related):
I think we are risking Virgin direct from Gatwick - is it really as bad as some people have made out? We flew United to SFO last year and the seats on the plane they used were v uncomfortable and quite old (certainly compared to the LAX-LHR flight on the way home - the planes were very different). Am I to expect something akin to the old United planes with Virgin?
(have never flown Virgin economy before, y'see)The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
September5th or 6th Sept, coming back 21st ish. (we're flexible, getting hitched on the 3rd so a few days after that is best for us).
Just seen a couple of flights with AA via LAX in and ORD out, which are cheaper than Virgin (£850ish for the two of us) and think we might bite the bullet and do the change.
Any thoughts on AA? They have a 2-5-2 config (I think) on the 777, but a McDonnell Douglas internally (never even heard of, let alone flown on one!). The transatlantic seating arrangement will suit us better!0 -
December ( including Xmas and New Year )Just returned on B A found the flight roomy and comfortable and its the first time ever that I've not had jetlag on return to UK. Unfortunately marred by the dreadfully long wait for our bags. We landed around 2.20 and got our bags at 3.50. Stayed at MGM for 4 nights, 2nights at Golden Nugget 8 nights at Bellagio and 3 Nights at Mandalay Bay. All great rooms and no front desk tipping!! Total room costs approx $1200. Incidentally I don't know if it has been mentioned but The World Market at Town Square provides free wifi. You can shop for nibbles, buy hot or cold food to eat in or take out and sit and surf. It's really great and the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful.0

Have flown with them via both Chicago and Dallas and they were fine. Both were really quiet flights from what I remember (the majority of passengers went to sleep after the meal) and we were lucky as there were loads of empty seats.0 -

We flew with them via ORD last trip and were pleased. The international leg was MUCH better than Virgin. IFE wasn't on demand, but all the films started regularly - every 20 mins or so I think - so you weren't stuck waiting 2+ hours if you missed the start of something. As Luci has mentioned before they seem to come around with soft drinks/tea/coffee all the time which is nice - and like you, we love the 2-5-2 configuration.
The MD80 we haven't experienced yet with AA - our internal flights were on a 737-800 which did mean about 4 hours in a set of 3 seater row with a stranger...but in the end it was fine - though quite cramped in the shoulder region I found (which may be partly down to my tendency to make myself as small as possible when seated in the middle). we didn't mind having a few hours at ORD to have something to eat and stretch our legs before our return flight - something we were afraid we would hate.
Depending on the ticket class you are looking at you might want to consider their Platinum Challenge - I did it and so made platinum with just one return trip with them. It's not free - but worth considering at least...we've not yet flown again with them since I qualified but when we booked our tickets with AA for April it was nice to have all the preferred seats normally greyed out open for us to choose.I had help from duchy and stoneman and they were great - and there are resources online that explain the programme pretty well.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

January , FebruaryI don't subscribe to threads, it just clutters up my email. I belong to several forums.
You can set it so you don't get emails. Just use the Quick Links and Subscribed threads links at the top of the forum. Very handy!OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090 -

AprilHave you read the guide on the first page? There really are a lot of choices and a lot of it is down to personal preferences and price range in terms of hotels...in terms of things to do while in Vegas - again, there's a lot of choice...maybe have a read of the guide and see if anything pops out at you. It's just hard for strangers to give suggestions based on such limited info and so many choices.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
