    happy new shiny year all..

welcome to the new people.... this is great fun...!

special welcome to Savingholmes... Hi SH... welcome to the darkside... nice to see you here!x

mailing bags: i buy in bulk now 500 at a time - done a deal with someone on ebay to save a few pennies then i dont keep running out.

Selling stuff: welll im selling our stuff... stuff we splashed out on when rich... stuff we dont need. plus clothes the kids grown out of. bikes, toys, anything, even broken things.. i got 26 pounds for a broken ds lite, and i have a broken xbox 360 listed with lots of watchers. also vouchers for example if you are on a mailing list like build-a-bear you get vouchers in the post - well list those. i sell stuff my parents give me too!

xx good luck all - back to listing for me today !

I really want to join you but ebay scares me!!! I sold my first 3 items last month and didn't get a proof of postage for one of them so had to refund £12 of my £24 profit!

I realise this was a fatal error, although don't know how proof of postage would have helped me - can anyone advise?

Also, is there somehwere I can read an idiots guide to ebay that won't take me all day? Or should I just not bother and Freecycle instead?

I'm sorry to be so pathetic but I struggle to motivate myself for what seems like an awful lot of trouble for low returns.

    Please inspire me!

All items up to £39 (with some exceptions like tickets or vouchers) are covered against loss in the post by RM as long as you cna prove postage. Either keep a pad of the certificate of posting forms that you fill out yourself and which the PO stamp, or ask the PO for a proper receipt for every item you send. That till receipt needs to have the basic address, house number and post code written on it.

If a buyer then claims non delivery you must still refund them in full, including all the original postage but doing that gets your full paypal fees back. A COP does not protect against a paypal chargeback.

To protect against a paypal chargeback you must be able to prove delivery, so recorded is the logical one below £39, alhtough in my opinion a waste of money as it rarely updates online to show delivery so you would still lose a chargeback.

Items over £39 must go fully tracked, if using RM then you must use special delivery.

For heavy items there is a long thread on the ebay board (see my sig) with couriers from around £6, so worth a look.

    I'll join.

But can I just ask what people use to package their items? I was looking at the bags in the post office and they're 80p!
I'm less likely to sell if I have to bump up the P&P :(

If you have anything really big I can recommend rubble sacks from Poundland. They are tougher than bin bags and usually green or blue in colour.

I buy my mailing sacks from Ebay, bubble wrap 60m roll from Viking Direct (often when they have a 2for1 deal on) and padded envelopes from Poundland. I also re-use any envelope, box or bit of packaging that comes near me. My brother and in-laws also give me any they get. I've saved up loads of boxes which I flat pack and keep in the garage. I shred any unwanted paper in the house and also use that for padding in parcels
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155

Wow, had to catch up on a page and a half of messages - excellent - so glad there are lots of new joiners.

I get my packaging from a few sellers on Ebay, I get the white mailing bags as you can write on them in biro and it doesn't rub off, I also buy clear self seal bags from an Ebay seller too, I always wrap everything in one of those and then put in a mailing bag, that was how I did things when I had my Ebay Business and have just got used to doing it that way, it keeps clothes clean. I also buy the padded bags out of Poundland and the 99p shop, Poundland I get the biggest ones, they have 4 for £1, and I get the others from the 99p shop. I do buy bubble wrap from the cheap shops too but sometimes my OH brings me back the bubblewrap from work, also he might get me a parcel tape if I need it and the shops are shut (same with sellotape). I always send International parcels in the padded envelopes.

I am currently sorting out and have 3 boxes full so far, we are having a good sort out today, am hoping to spend late afternoon and evening getting stuff listing (please Ebay have a free listing day announcement today or tomorrow before I list it all).

Things I have to list are: children's clothes, a pair of Next jeans that don't fit me anymore, books, some toys, bags, baby changing bags and a cosytoes, a sheepskin buggy liner, a bracelet, pen, kids hair bands, thermometer, cutlery set plus lots more, am going to try and list anything really.

Also don't forget that it is free to list items under 99p for Private sellers, books you have to offer free postage (in case any new people are wondering why it won't let them add a postage price, it is also free to list for £4.99 and under in Books, Comics, Magazine category until end of Jan I think).

Good luck everyone, can't wait to start listing again later.

    Hi everyone,
Can I join please? I ebay erratically throughout the year, and never keep track of any profits! I want to clear out my loft this year, and I know lots of the stuff could be ebayed. Am excited to see just how much I could make, as I'm also doing the 10K in 2010 challenge, any extra funds will be a bonus. Great thread!!!
