One other thing I thought of about how they find you. This is an open forum, anyone can read it without logging in, you carry targets and achievements in your signatures and I'm sure many of us have worked out selling IDs of many others. So mention you are selling vintage dior whatevers, for instance, find the seller selling those and you have an ebay id, that's one step closer to reporting someone as ebay can get info from a selling ID if HMRC require them to do so.
I was stalked once, someone on here tried to ruin my ebay business as I had mentioned an item I was selling and as it was unique he could track me down. All I had done was annoy a few people on different boards by being a bit outspoken and suddenly I'm getting malicious bidders on my auctions, items not paid for and negative feedback left immediately on purchase.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you are selling your own stuff then this is not taxable, regardless of how much you make.
However if you are doing any kind of buy and sell it on, you must register as self-employed (and that includes mystery shopping if any of you do that).
You have 3 months to register from the date that you started (although do check just in case this has changed). The result is that you have to do a tax return each year.
I'm registered as self-employed on the mystery shopping side.
I've been reading several threads about making money that have appeared recently and if anybody is subscribed to them, please suggest that people are made aware of HMRC requirements and it is an automatic £100 fine as an initial starter.

Lol I've been stalked even though I was selling my own stuff - thankfully a powerseller managed to get rid of the stalker
So I have been at my m-i-ls all afternoon and haven't got any piccies done. Am going to work out postage and then pop items on tonight - will do photos tomorrow. Plenty of watchers on items but will feel better when I add some more items.
Have sold two more books on Amazon so they will need to be packed and sent.
It's the start of my 'media week' tomorrow - will be adding as much as I can to Amazon, GreenMet and eBay.
Have been good so far and kept a record of eBay postage costs (and later the monthly fee invoice) so long may that continue! :rotfl:
Also cleared a space in the eBay room so am determined not to refill it. Also started clearing space in the loft and threw out lots of large boxes for items that I am never going to sell on as they are damaged now - the Maclaren buggy comes to mind - so that is now looking much better. Of course the downside is that I feel like I don't have enough stuff to sell to clear my debt! but will continue and see how I go.
Still haven't found the time to add the newbies to the list so apologies; I got involved in some family research for someone last night - if only I could charge people, I wouldn't have to eBay

What happens if you were Self Employed and then stopped being Self Employed and then wanted to start again, I deregistered as Self Employed in September I think it was but am thinking of going back to doing it again as I want to buy some stuff Wholesale to sell on, do I just ring them back up and say I want to be Self Employed again and will they just reinstate my last account as they will be sending me a Tax Return to do for this Tax Year.
Does that make sense?Sealed Pot Challenge #0160 -
Well so far all i have sold is my own items, since iv bought just 6 items for what normally is the price for 2 of these items, can i not just claim i bought so much because of the cheap price and then claim they were the wrong size or not like described so i sold them on?Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Wow I guess you have to be careful! Some people can be so malicious.
Just put up another item, no bids/watchers on any yet. x0 -
Just saying is it worth it. If i buy and sell to make up 50% of the income, the other 50% from selling my own clothes, if i registar for tax am i not just signing up to pay tax for selling my own items? Seems a bit rubbish to be honest.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

another 13 listed 2day on ebay - thats me up to 24 now! still along way off some of your totals but hey its a start lol!
i mainly list clothes, make up, shoes - the majorityis my own worn clothes or stuff ive changed my mind about - a few items i have picked up quite cheap - like a few pound in the sales, and will sell on, but so far that has maybe been4 items!
also because i work full time, and pay tax & n.i and am not self employed, i would have imagined hmrc wont hound me just yet!fingers crossed anyways!
keep on listing everyone!0 -
Right I currently have abour 24 active listings.
I never seem to make much on ebay my things never seem to go for that much.
Can anyone have a look at my stuff for me and give me some hints/tips???0
