  • Hi All,

I've been away cramming up on 'how to make a million pounds selling things on ebay and retiring in the sun sipping pina coladas' type books.

I think Captain Spam (I think) was saying 'easy to sell own stuff but more difficult selling stock bought especially'

We all have nice stuff lying around house which once cost a lot and is now easy to resell on ebay for a quarter of its original price etc. Really anybody can do that the difficult stuff is when our own stuff is all gone and we want to do the serious selling.

The stuff I am reading says there are so many buyers on ebay looking to spend their money and we just need to research and find a niche and then it will be home sailing.

I have found two things which sell well not too over saturated with sellers yet but I suppose I am wondering 'Have I missed the boat?' Is there really anything now that has been left undiscovered? Do we need to find a virgin product or just copy someone who seems to be doing well and hope to gain some share of the market.

    Sorry dead long post.

PS hugs to everyone who needs them just now for your trials and tribulations whilst I have been away

jaynemaria, sorry to hear about OH. Fingers crossed something comes up for him soon. My OH has been allowed back to his job but having agreed to no payrise or bonus this year for being such a naughty boy. It could be worse...

    I have two questions:
    1) I have the face of a Rolex watch which I found 20 years ago in a field. It has what I think is an insurance number on the back but the strap is missing. Could I sell this on eBay? And if so, what are the risks...? Can I check with Rolex whether the 'insurance' numbers are real?

    2) My well and truly broken laptop which I am going to put on for spares...how do I remove the hardrive (it's a Dell Inspiron) which I am assuming I need to do to make sure my info isn't taken and used.

Have just about cleared my bedroom of eBay stuff....I've moved it all back into the living room :rotfl:as I couldn't face another morning of waking up to face the 'boxes'.

Hope you are all enjoying this lovely sunny day.

It may be worth taking it into a jewellers or pawn shop, see what they offer you as then you'll know it's worth loads more.
Jaynemaria, sorry to hear about your OH. Hope that something else comes up soon for him, if not try selling him on ebay.

Are you able to source the items easily a few at a time? If so & it's not too expensive to buy I'd go for it. I've been racking my brains for a niche, however all I've got is a darn headache & a house full of carp.
The thing is if you don't try it you'll keep looking at the completed listings & kicking yourself every time one sells at a decent profit.
Good luck if you go for it.

Last month, I sold 16 Smash Hits and Number Ones and made £70. :j
In January I sold 33 magazines and made £115. (most of these were ones I listed during the December holidays but did not sell straight away).

When P & P was introduced again, I experimented with lowering the price of the magazines and adding £1 postage and packing but I didn't sell any the week I did that, so I went back to selling them all for a flat rate of £2.50 and free P & P. I don't think my buyers realised they got more of a bargain when I was charging postage - especially those that bought more than one magazine, but oh well. I'm still cheaper than most of the folk selling those magazines. One thing I've noticed in the past 6 months, the amount of overseas people buying my mags has dropped. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this?

I must get into the habbit of listing more magazines at the weekend. I'll have to ban myself from this forum as I keep reading the posts here when I should be listing :) I was going to do more challenges, but I think I'm better off just concentrating on ebay and getting the listings on.

  • That's more like it :)

Have sold one item tonight for £8, have listed 11 new items, relisted 19 and I had one active already (with a bid) so I currently have 31 active. The OH helped me by taking pics of me modelling some clothes that I want to sell so I can get them listed on another day. Now it's back to refreshing my active selling every five minutes in the hope that makes people bid on my items lol.

Why do people bl00dy well watch BIN, why can't we shout, p or get off the pot, it has 29 days & 20hours until it ends.
  • Hi Hermum et al

About the niches, I think some people must come across them from their own particular interests eg carp, yes I mean carp the fish. Fishing is a hot category and men obviously are quite happy to spend on fishing tackle. Looks like lots of people are spotting that and tackle shops on ebay are increasing. Another thing I noticed was a particular bike wheel rim. Someone is selling two sets of those a week and its probably enough at £500 a go to keep them ticking over. Depends what price they are sourcing them at.

I have phoned up a manufacturer of an item and told them (lied) that I am setting up a shop in Edinburgh. They are sending me the trade prices but want proof of the business. I was a bit shy of actually saying that I want to sell them on ebay.

Does anyone know what mainstream manufacturers think about people wanting to sell their item cheaply through an Ebay shop?

Anyway, long story short HM, it is a hard slog trawling through ebay trying to find something that no one else will have thought of by now. Maybe, like I said in the other post, it doesn;t have to be that original.

Sorry maybe next time I'll PM you if you dont mind if you are interested in my lengthy ramblings!

Don't mind the long rambling, wait til I get going. Instead of saying it's actually ebay, say you'll be selling online, Don't forget that a lot of manufacturers sell on ebay themselves. If you think that you've found a niche, keep it to yourself, a lot of people will jump on someone's idea and this is an open forum.
