Been in exactly the same boat, flat above where we were was rented to students who were about during the day a lot, very noisy while my wife was home trying to study. Complaints to their landlord had little effect.
I was driven to the point of considering supergluing their locks when they went out so they couldn't get back in, one night I was on the edge of going in the meter cupboard outside their flat and disconnecting their electricity. In the it was making me bitter, angry and heading for trouble without causing them any bother!
We turned it around by working hard at making the peace, they came and heard the noise from our flat, I got them some foam from work to put their speakers on etc. Things got a lot better. For tonight though I would let it go.0 -
Take my word for it. you cant do anything.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

TBH it is New Years Eve I think that tonight you just have to stand it. The issue is more that this isn't a one off - I would let them have this one, but next time there is a party with excessive noise after say midnight I would ring the noise abatement team of Environmental Health.
For tonight what if you can't beat them join them - gate crash!!0 -

Not tonight you can't.

We had a neighbour like that we used to stay at my daughters... luckily eventually he grew up and got a girlfriend who didn't like to disturb the neighbours now he is the neighbour from heaven..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Hi David I know exactly how you feel we have had noise team, recording equipment everything but it is so intermittent the council just won't do anything. But when it's bad it's really bad. Noise becoming a council not police matter is worst thing ever!!! It makes our life a misery at times, ranging from me crying to us trying to get drunk to fall asleep to arguing amongst ourselves etc etc....
Tbh it has crossed my mind about tonight but OH is working and I am here on my own so I will just crank up TV if I have to. Luckily however we are not working tomorrow. If I was you I would seriously consider Travelodge, it has def. crossed our minds in the past.
With one off loud other neighbours we have approached and it has been fine but if this is a planned party I don't think you have much hope. Pretty rude of them not to invite you or let you know about it IMO.
I doubt noise team would do anything tonight, a bit before Xmas we had them out and they said they could not hear it!!! Then they turned up our TV loads and said see you can't hear it.....we sent them away and told them to forget it. So at a bit of a loss of what to do in future if it happens. It is all very well logging every time it happens etc but it really does make life a misery especially when you own your home.
If I was you although you should not have to, I would go to a friend's/family or travel lodge. I know alot of people say earplugs but they don't always work especially if the music is so loud you can feel the vibrations.Debt Free Wannabe by 1 January 2016

How is it? Are they being loud?
I feel for you as my neighbour upstairs is also very noisy, I have had to speak my landlady a few times now (last time, 2 days before Christmas...I bet she loves me!) as it was so loud I could hear it over my tv and washing machine and they chose to ignore me trying to ring their door 3 times. I also have neighbours with kids at the back and they just seem to constantly whine (lovely in the mornings as my bedroom is at the back). I'd look at moving, but the flat is gorgeous and no where else is half as nice, so I put up with it!
I can hear the bass upstairs now and a 'party' going on at the back, but for tonight, I shall just let them get on with it, stick a film on and hope it doesn't go on all night.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Thanks for all your advice,i'm surprised a few people said you can't do owt tonight, why?,it says on the rules of the housing estate no noise after 11pm,it does not exclude new years or christmas.I f you can imagine a football being bounced on your ceiling for hours, noisy sex with f####ng and blinding, doors being constantly slammed, running from one end of the flat to the other for hours,(there son),shouting and screaming on the phone,we can hear every word,Them arguing and him throwing her out of the flat into the communal hallway at 5am and her kicking the door, screaming and shouting to get back in.That's just a weeks worth of noise. The owner has been very sympathetic and warned them, but they don't take any notice.Hopefully they won't renew there tenancy.0
